OneOfOneThousand
Hi All, some painting advice needed please! I've recently bought Vulkan to paint him up (and inevitably fall into collecting the XVIII) but when i've been testing out some green paints I'm having trouble getting the shade I want. I would like ideally a very deep, rich green as they have Vulkan in on the FW website; http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Vulkan-Primarch-of-the-Salamanders But I can't seem to be able to find a suitable base and highlight for it. I contacted FW direct to ask them and they recommended Tamiya Flat Green, although after I had ordered a couple of pots it still doesnt look like that on the web, it still looks a bit too 'olive' I also want to avoid the neon-greens I see on some Sallies - they look good, but not the look I'm after. Advice most welcome! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313706-salamander-green/ Share on other sites
Nova_chron
Have you tried a green wash over your base coat I've found it can really help pull the color you want out glazes work nicely but I use those last to get a slight shine on the mini Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313706-salamander-green/#findComment-4172196 Share on other sites
OneOfOneThousand
Thanks I'll give that a try - I've actually found a few spare tactical marines since I posted (got to love working from home!) that I can use for some test schemes. Not too worried about the slight sheen as I'll be matte varnishing the big man down again as I love a flat finish once I've finished painting a model. If I can get my phone to work posting pictures i'll look to provide some pics. I've also searched for some other examples of the flat green and to be honest it doesnt look as military green as i thought looking at it in the pot! May have already found the solution! God-Potato of Mankind
I use AP Greenskin primer. Not sure if this is your bag, but it turns out like this: http://i.imgur.com/4HgBgOf.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313706-salamander-green/#findComment-4172359 Share on other sites
powwow
http://m-k-painting-studio.blogspot.com.au/2015/07/salamander-painting-guide.html?m=1 Try this. Matt painted the Vulkan you see on FW webstore so I imagine this will help break down how to work with the tamiya colours Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313706-salamander-green/#findComment-4172769 Share on other sites
OneOfOneThousand
God-Potato - liking that, the green looks nice and smooth (love the Javelin by the way!) powwow - you sir, win the internet. I'd listened to the Eye of Horus episode a few days ago when he mentioned it but just couldnt find any instructions. That's my weekend sorted - I have 3 Rhinos and 10 MkVII Marines to try and test it out. Can't believe how excited I am about this by the way - think my Alpha Legion and Chaos Legion forces may have to take a back seat for a while. But how to overcome my biggest problem and stay on target with the XVIII??! Monthly commitments? Blog updates? Hmmmm.
