Ovidius Incertus
Anyone who has the Ashen Circle minis or has seen them up close, how hard do you think it would be to strip the WB iconography from them? Looks like some of the torsos would be very difficult, but some look ok...maybe repurpose the torso with the book on it for a Librarian? Legs look like they're not too awful to clear off. Pauldrons seem difficult. Anyone tried or have any thoughts? Olis
Besides one of them having a big book on his chest (the Libby idea could work), I think just some simple filing and filling should do the trick for most of them. Daevyll
As Olis said, the one with the book would be hardest. There are some other details that would need cutting/filing as well, but not too stressful. There are a lot of details on chest and legs though, so it will take a fair bit of time. The geometric patterns could just be filled in, not much of a problem there. m_r_parker
Looking at the pack that arrived on my doorstep 6 hours ago (yep, literally) - it's possible, but it's going to be difficult. in some areas. Some areas are raised details that will need to be filed / cut / scraped to have the removed. Others are very fine engravings into areas, including depressed flame icons on knees, which will need green-stuff filling before smoothing down. I would suggest that a couple of models are going to be more problematic than others. Exhibit A, the guy on the left: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resources/catalog/product/600x620/99590102166_LegionAshenCircle02.jpg On his waist is a sculpted skull that has a feed running from it's jaw, and is deep in the armour. That may be especially difficult to remove without damaging cables if you're not careful. If you're thinking about cleaning the pads, I would literally see if you can swap them out for generic MkII with some Legion MkII for the Legion you're adapting them to. Even though you can't do this on this forum, you should be able to sell the Ashen Circle pads quite easily to anyone who plays Word Bearers - they're easily some of the best that they have that aren't sculpted onto the torsos. One of the nicest things on the sculpts, that they don't show you on the site, is that some of the legs in the rear have some exposed cabling and mechanisms. It isn't much, but is something extra that you don't realise until you get them. Jolemai
Oddly enough, "purifying" some Ashen Circle marines is on my to-do list and yes, I was contemplating selling on the shoulder pads Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313807-question-about-ashen-circle-minis/#findComment-4175123 Share on other sites
Ovidius Incertus
I'm thinking that they'd make some nice Death Company and possibly a Librarian. Even comes with a melta pistol! The guy with the skull in his chest looked insurmountable from the pictures I've seen. I suppose he could always just be painted as a one-off Word Bearer or made into a Raptor or something. Liquid Green Stuff seems like it would be pretty effective at dealing with the inset designs.
