Heya guys

I was reading through the wikia page for the Warhounds and it says that they are use as a terror weapon? why is that actually? they became so terrifying that they are now only prohibited to be 2 in each titan maniple, why is that? is there a story in this?

thanks!

It's because they're a scout Titan so when they aren't an escort for a larger Titan, they are either running reconnaisance missions or terror raids.

Recon is scouting out enemy positions and determining their strength while the terror raids are hit and run strikes used to cause as much disruption as possible either in preparation for a larger attack, wreck supply lines, etc.

Another aspect is the machine spirit of the Warhounds are a bit more feral or primal than the other titans from the books about them. It takes a strong princeps to keep the machine spirit under control.

The reason (in M41) that they are no longer allowed to operate in maniples larger than 2 engines, is because during the Siege of Terra whole packs of them went on the rampage as their princeps gave into the highly aggressive whims of their machine spirits and slaughtered millions of civilians.

During the Great Crusade they didn't limit the maniple numbers on them because they were murdering aliens and doing the work of the Imperium. After the horrors of the Heresy, the Imperium recognized that their destructive power needed to be reigned in (no pun intended) just like the astartes.

There is something about slaughtering civilians I have in mind. I guess it was during the scouring.

Ah i see,but in the term that they went rampage and slaughtered millions what makes them different from other god engines? Is it because they're a faster engine?

For sure, also yes while larger Titans have incredible destructive power, the warhounds are faster and far more mobile and thus when Horus was sending units of 10+ out to rampage across Terra they were herding civilians into kill zones and massacring them in the thousands.

You know when a warlord is coming and can plan to be somewhere else. But a pack of ten warhounds? You dead homie.

War hounds are the best class for taking on light infantry and armor formations. They have enough protection to resist armored units and small arms fire, and are small enough to move quickly to neutralize larger ordnance, similar to the functionality of knights. If you lack the ordnance to take on a titan, you can do nothing but watch as it rips it's way through your forces and pray you have more men than it has ammunition.
