It's going to be difficult finding wings that small. I still think the plain helmet looks great, I liken the winged helms more to the 41st millennium, where Chapters wear a ton of ornamentation to grasp at any last vestige of their origins.

But these wings are pretty small (smaller than the big feathered ones I had), I could go smaller to with the ravenwing bike emblems but they would be almost "flash" like ear wings.

I am firmly in the 'keep'em' camp. I've always loved the winged Teutonic Knight helmets, but they don't fit with the Templar aesthetic. You've clearly demonstrated they absolutely fit the I Legion. It'd be a shame to not run with them.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They reminded me of the Teutonic knights.

Keep them.

Just wanted to say that the small wings have a teutonic feeling I really enjoy. Keep them. This looks awesome. But don't f*ck up the paintjob please :D And don't forget to paint the feathers black white black white ;) and add a little chess field here and there..
I did mine with just a black primer and had to hand paint all the trims. The Devils in the details. I did, however, run a Nuln Oil wash over the whole model, which gave it a lighter tone and made some of the larger plates shiny.

Highlighting black isn't easy... people complain about white, but I think that's a walk in the park compared to it's opposite. Some use greys mixed with varying degrees of black, shading effects, etc. to achieve a highlight to black. I would even suggest something like what FW did with Iron Hands. Do some sort of metallic sheen to their armour, perhaps green? Do a very very light drybrush of Leadbelcher on the black armour and build up a slight green sheen using Vallejo green ink or whatever you prefer. It'll remove the outright metallic and give it this nice color.

How about tinting a gloss varnish and applying it to the black?

Interesting. I was thinking if I do a really dark green that I'd put layers of green wash over it.

Here's how he's looking at the moment, just added the new head and the wings.

Maybe yeah, I'm still not set on whether I'm doing green or not though, I kind of want to use a Primarch at some time which would lead me to think of going with just black with secondary red/white, likewise the green tint does sound more interesting

You can use Enkomi or Lokens cape if you can find a bitz dealer. Both roll away from the shoulder so the won't obscure your symbols.

I actually have an Enkomi cape, it's got a backpack on it though which is mk IV, I could perhaps try and cut away the back and slide the cloak up under the current Mk III one.

I've done a 2:1 ratio of dark grey to black for highlights just on the outlines of armor - shading is a Herculean task with black and almost not worth the time and effort. After the highlights you're going to want to use an unshaken bottle of Nuln oil to get the glossy sheen and tone back the highlight.

More or less, you're going to want to add a lot of heraldry to contrast the black and use a gold trim (better than a silver trim IMHO) to break up the model.

Have to do some liquid green stuff work on the cloak as it has some bad mould lines and some little holes, but you get the picture.
