Kriegriss
I think he looks fantastic I would perhaps put a little bit of rake on them for a more fluid look but I think it is a treat conversion man well done Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4184624 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
It's going to be difficult finding wings that small. I still think the plain helmet looks great, I liken the winged helms more to the 41st millennium, where Chapters wear a ton of ornamentation to grasp at any last vestige of their origins. Emperor's Furor
But these wings are pretty small (smaller than the big feathered ones I had), I could go smaller to with the ravenwing bike emblems but they would be almost "flash" like ear wings. http://i.imgur.com/uUwqnf4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4184644 Share on other sites
depthcharge12
I think they're great man, I'd keep them. Since youre using mkIII (it's bulky), the larger wings work well. Marshal Rohr
I am firmly in the 'keep'em' camp. I've always loved the winged Teutonic Knight helmets, but they don't fit with the Templar aesthetic. You've clearly demonstrated they absolutely fit the I Legion. It'd be a shame to not run with them. DuskRaider
The important thing is that you're happy with the model. There's nothing worse than getting everyone else's opinion on something and ending up with a final version that deviates vastly from your vision. Corswain
I'm partial to the one with the Censer in the faceplate :p Agreed. Probably my favorite in the pack. And the wings look awesome! norngahl
Just wanted to say that the small wings have a teutonic feeling I really enjoy. Keep them. This looks awesome. But don't f*ck up the paintjob please :D And don't forget to paint the feathers black white black white ;) and add a little chess field here and there.. Emperor's Furor
Not sure how I'm going to paint him atm, waiting to see some of the art from the next HH book. I'm not the best at highlight though. depthcharge12
I did mine with just a black primer and had to hand paint all the trims. The Devils in the details. I did, however, run a Nuln Oil wash over the whole model, which gave it a lighter tone and made some of the larger plates shiny. DuskRaider
Highlighting black isn't easy... people complain about white, but I think that's a walk in the park compared to it's opposite. Some use greys mixed with varying degrees of black, shading effects, etc. to achieve a highlight to black. I would even suggest something like what FW did with Iron Hands. Do some sort of metallic sheen to their armour, perhaps green? Do a very very light drybrush of Leadbelcher on the black armour and build up a slight green sheen using Vallejo green ink or whatever you prefer. It'll remove the outright metallic and give it this nice color. Slips
How about tinting a gloss varnish and applying it to the black? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4185806 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
How about tinting a gloss varnish and applying it to the black? Interesting. I was thinking if I do a really dark green that I'd put layers of green wash over it. Here's how he's looking at the moment, just added the new head and the wings. http://i.imgur.com/PCVPYsf.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4188592 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
Have you considered doing black, but highlighting with green? The washes are just so hard to accomplish the look you're describing. Emperor's Furor
Maybe yeah, I'm still not set on whether I'm doing green or not though, I kind of want to use a Primarch at some time which would lead me to think of going with just black with secondary red/white, likewise the green tint does sound more interesting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4188602 Share on other sites

Emperor's Furor
I'm not sure on the robe/cape it may cover up to much of the added detail like the raptor symbol on his shoulder shoulder pad. Marshal Rohr
You can use Enkomi or Lokens cape if you can find a bitz dealer. Both roll away from the shoulder so the won't obscure your symbols. I actually have an Enkomi cape, it's got a backpack on it though which is mk IV, I could perhaps try and cut away the back and slide the cloak up under the current Mk III one. depthcharge12
I've done a 2:1 ratio of dark grey to black for highlights just on the outlines of armor - shading is a Herculean task with black and almost not worth the time and effort. After the highlights you're going to want to use an unshaken bottle of Nuln oil to get the glossy sheen and tone back the highlight. More or less, you're going to want to add a lot of heraldry to contrast the black and use a gold trim (better than a silver trim IMHO) to break up the model. Marshal Rohr
It may be worth your time to carefully remove the backpack and replace it with the Centurion's pack. It's effort intensive, I know, but this model is already killing it :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4188650 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
Have to do some liquid green stuff work on the cloak as it has some bad mould lines and some little holes, but you get the picture. http://i.imgur.com/AojEfEY.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/VF1zqsf.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/klWZgv1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313883-converting-a-dark-angels-praetor-updated/page/4/#findComment-4188703 Share on other sites
