Primer - Chaos Black
Base - Steel Legion Drab
Layer - Martian Ironearth
Metallics - Sycarax Bronze & Balthasar Gold

I want my Adeptus Mechanicus to stand out from the standard Martian Red, yet not be too extreme to be unrecognizable. The other forge colours of Metalica, Stygies XII, etc just didn't inspire me. I also wanted to keep a pseudo-desert look, i.e. faded colours, but then I didn't want them being mistaken for Imperial Guard or Tau.

Then I thought, "Martian Ironearth". Undeniably Martian. Not too red, not too tan, not too orange. It wins!

The big unknown was if the Martian Ironearth could be layered thinly enough to avoid the 'cracking' effect. Here it is on the model in two thin layers. I may go for a third.

Before assembly-lining my 30+ models, what do you think? It's not complete, I know, but just your general impression.

Thanks,
R.
