BlodVargarna
Hey guys/gals I've heard the call of chaos and I'm going to do the entire DV set! After much deliberation, I've settled on a Black Legion color scheme. One thing I'd like to do is paint the flesh of the hellbrute (and cultists) a very pallid white to provide a great contrast to the black scheme of the Black Legion. Any ideas for GW colors? Any good techniques I should be aware of? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/ Share on other sites
CommodusXIII
I'm a simple person. For my Mechanicus models, I layer Pallid Wych Flesh over a white basecoat. I then follow it with a wash of Nuln Oil to bring out the details. It gives a suitably Borg-like complexion. Here's a rather old example: http://i.imgur.com/6J0ogKml.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/#findComment-4178496 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
How pale do you want the skin to be? Deadly pale or just not-enough-sunlight pale? For the first I would recommend using a mix of Pallid Wych Flesh with light grey (like celestial grey) and then add white to the highlights, using a dark blue wash for shading. For the second I would recommend using a intermediate flesh tone, wash it with a purple or dark crimson mix and then highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh. Here you can find some more examples and better descriptions: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com.es/2011/01/painting-dark-eldar-skin-tones.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/#findComment-4178520 Share on other sites

geektom
Here is my formula: Base coat the flesh a very light color or white Wash it with a ratio of 1 part ink to 3 parts water Do the highlights with the original color Repeat the wash Hit the highlights a final time, with either white or a 1:1 ratio of the original color/white If you want for contrast, you can hit the deep recesses with a less diluted coat of the wash. sockwithaticket
I know it's not GW colours, but have a crack at the Reaper Master Series Vampiric TriadI painted the skin on this Demonhost by layering up from the shadow paint, through the mid-tone and up to the highlight:http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/6/30/725433_sm-.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/#findComment-4179635 Share on other sites
Chaeron
I tend to go from Rakarth Flesh, to Pallid Wych, with a purple wash (Druchii Violet) to taste. You could rehighlight with Pallid Wych, and perhaps even go as far as Skull White/White Scar? Daevyll
Thanks guys, I'm thinking dead flesh. For actual dead flesh I use Duck Egg Green (you've got to love the name) from Vallejo, highlighted with mixes of Duck Egg with a warm off-white (like Pallid Wych). Wash with either a thinned brownish wash (warmer) or thinned black wash (colder). Bryan Blaire
If you are going to do pallid flesh, it will make it look more realistic to do some veins in bluish colors. I attempted to do this with some very thin blue glaze. While probably not as important for actual dead flesh, it will still add some visual interest and some realism. Thedarkprincesnun
Depends how pale you want it For example with my word bearers I just use rakarth because they have pale skin bit my hellbrutes get rakarth layered with pallid Wych washed with reikland flesh shade due to me wanting the skin to look like it's tortured Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/#findComment-4192046 Share on other sites
Space Truckin
I tend to go from Rakarth Flesh, to Pallid Wych, with a purple wash (Druchii Violet) to taste. You could rehighlight with Pallid Wych, and perhaps even go as far as Skull White/White Scar? :tu: Pretty much what I did here but with Vallejo Paints and Druchii Violet mixed in. I did a a final highlight of dead flesh i think. I should write these things down as I now have 15 more cultists to paint. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/csm-hellbrute.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314024-painting-very-pallid-flesh/#findComment-4192709 Share on other sites
