How should I integrate guard infantry into my bucket heads

So I'm putting together a new team "smurf" and thought the ultra boys could do with some flank guard's dacca...

 

How about feed back from folks who run both imperial army types, can 350 points of army guys be worth the points spent for the tar-pit they provide.

 

Note: I'm going to be up against orks and nids mostly.

Got preds, razors and rhinos maxed out, to be honest I hadn't thought of guard armor as an option. My tin cans are cheaper and vindicators give big templates when you take three.

 

You suggest not going footslogger sheild? Id have to reduce marines to min squads to free up points for .... Leman Russ squ ?

Fish, my thoughts exactly... Never played guard before but had a thee squad flank tar-pit in mind... Commisar hq to keep em firing and a terminator squad in reserve if the enemy go all out to cc the guard to death.

i've had a lot of success with allied guard in my BA.

bare bones platoons (with maybe flamers) and priests to stop em running. Good for tying up opponents I don't want to use my Death company for, and for holding the line forever. Off the top of my head you could probably take 40 meat sacks and some flamers for that. as well as a CCS and PCS and a priest. Blob em up and run them (use orders to shoot and run) to drown your enemies in their blood. Remember 99% casualties is a success if you have the objectives .

 

 

 

 

ETA - you could also get one bare bones platoon, a cheap HQ and a deathstrike missile launcher. It's completely ineffective but will totally change the dynamic of the game. Noone will want that thing to actually go off. 160 points for one of the finest distractions in the game.

Take yarrick and a platoon of your choosing a priest wouldnt go astray either. Chuck yarrick in the blob for orders and close combat ability and the platoon command squad in cover with a heavy weapon of some sort. You now have a really tough to budge scoring unit.

 

For 360 points you can have yarrick, a priest, 30 infantry and a platoon command squad with an autocannon. Not a bad allied buy by any means

What do you want them to achieve? if your marines are kitted for glory hogging, charging into the maw of death to fight off the tyrants and fexs etc then grabbing some platoons with a nice range of weapons to cover the glory boys and thin the numbers. With that in mind I'd say 2 units with autocannons and nade launchers, 2 units with flamers, a pcs with with auto or 4 nade launchers, then a spec weapon squad or 2 with 2 flamers and a demo charge to running weasel and draw the swarm away. All the while your main glory boys in blue are fighting hq's elites and other fancy dancy stuff to extend their honor roll.

 

It works in my head anyway...

Thanks grey, spafe... I'm planning on using them as a left flank disposable meatsheild with plenty of dacca potential. My space smurfs I will use as a central fire line with armor on the other flank ready to exploit .

 

I'm sure the multi squad tar pit is way to go. Anything that stops the other team triple ganging my elites in cc will be a good thing.

What's the point spend on auto cannons these days? I'm thinking a squad of stormies (beret varient cos I have em) , a squad regular, a command squad and three autocannon in case of monsters or ork armor. Figure plasma and grenades for support weps for a mix of template joy and precise anti heavy fire. By passing up the conscript mob I don't have to worry so much on break tests. Def want a priest as a floater tho.

You cant take the three autocannons unless they are in a platoon and for a platoon you need a platoon command squad and 20 infantry minimum. 

 

If you take the 30 infantry blob with priest you dont need to worry about break tests anyway as he makes the unit fearless and gives them re-rolls in first round of combat. He also has prayers which boost combat ability. 

So, where apart from eBay can you get the old beret stormtroopers... I'm short one assult cannon with crew and five troopers... Forge world?

 

It is prob hopeless... I need 6 more desert raiders to complete a third squad, which would make up my right flank force with a priest as my hq choice...

 

Or I just say to hell with it and buy 3 cadian squads...

The plastic beret troopers are ancient by current standards - second hand is your only hope I'm afraid that means eBay as the best place to find them. Can't imagine they'll be cheap assuming you can find any :confused:
