GreyCrow
Hey guys ! So, I'm trying to get into 30k with either the Raven Guard or the Alpha Legion and I'd love to get your advice on a starter army I'm making. Knowing that the guys in my area usually play at 3k points, this is obviously going to be a stepping stone for later. C&C much appreciated ! Dynat - 200 Exodus - 115 Contemptor Dreadnought - Kheres, Grav Guns - 205 5 Lernaean - 5 Powerfists - 250 Landraider Phobos as DT - 250 3 x 10 Tacticals - Melta bomb + Rhino - 470 Tactical Support squad - 5 Plasmaguns, Rhino - 210 <-- Dynat goes here 5 Headhunters - Heavy Bolter with Banestrike and Suspensor Web - 185 <-- Exodus goes here 1985 points ____ General strategy : stay flexible, pick the most interesting mutable tactic, deep strike the Dreadnought or the Land Raider Phobos, have fun with the Headhunters, blow stuff up with Dynat's kill squad. Overall, all my units are either Troops or have Implacable advance, save for Dynat, Exodus, the Dread and the Headhunters. So definitely going to play chicken with the enemy and aim for the objectives, mwuhaha Still got 15 points to spend somewhere... Terminus
Since you're not at a point-level to really utilize Coils, I would skip on the third tactical squad. That should give you some more points for killy stuff (or a pod for your contemptor). Also, I'm new to the Alpha Legion, but I really like the sarge with powerfist and dagger. 3 base powerfist attacks have usually served me more than a single melta-bomb, even against vehicles. GreyCrow
Ah yeah, thanks for the Sarge with Power Fist and Dagger idea ! Makes sense considering both are specialist weapons ;) Regarding the third tactical squad, I previously had a list with 2 Contemptors, and 2 Tacticals but a friend told me I was severely lacking in Troops, so I removed a Dreadnought and added the Tactical Squad. I might also have to review Dynat completely, because I misread his warlord trait as being able to give Deep Strike to any unit and was planning to Deep Strike the Dreadnoughts :/ Fail on my part there :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314061-alpha-legion-2k-starter-list/#findComment-4179655 Share on other sites
Resonance
I would drop a tac squad and add some heavy Support. Rapiers are good as you can give them the mutable tactics rules Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314061-alpha-legion-2k-starter-list/#findComment-4179712 Share on other sites
Capt. Tates
Dynat's DS rule is for infantry models only dude. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314061-alpha-legion-2k-starter-list/#findComment-4187787 Share on other sites
