Deathwing Redemption Force quick Question.

OK so lemme get this straight. I have to take TWO Demi Companies to get the bonus for this formation? OMG that freakin blows!

Yeah lemme just pull out my 60 tactical marines oe 30 or whatever 10 devs and I get a couple of free rhinos? Thanks but no thanks.

I mean honestly, have you guys seen the bonuses for Eldar for taking a Warhost? OMG. It's like christmas morning. Everything comes with a bonus and everything YOU WOULD HAVE TAKEN ANYWAY CAUSE IT'S SO DAMNED GOOD. I love my Angels but right now I just haf my first look at the codex and am not really all that happy with it.

Well, they don't have to be 10-man squads; You only need a total of 15 Tacs, 5 Devs, 5 assaults  plus a CM or Chaplain to have a demi-company; (the vets, dreadnoughts and command squads are optional).  To build on this and unlock the Lion's Blade Strike Force with its Supreme Fire discipline (overwatch at normal ballistic skill), you only need to add one auxiliary formation which can be as little as a 5 -man scout squad.

Doubling these base numbers to two demi companies will get Supreme Fire Discipline, plus the free transports, yes.  Keep in mind, these dedicated transports, along with all of the demi-company troops all have Objective Secured.

But getting the bonus isn't that great, when all you have is storm bolters/assault can/cml. it's not like ppl are likely to charge power fist wearing, 2+ saving, veterans. They don't benefit as much as normal troops would since they can only be charged successfully by specialists. Therefore your really better off taking the dwsf than redemption force.

its not that bad if you look deeper into it, hammer of caliban is actually an incredible formation with company veterans or deathwing terminators. bare preds and a redeemer, kill every infantry and MC with power fists, autocannons and a pinning and shred flamestorm within 12" of the raider once you make it over the table. im serious here in theory you could just mess up an entire ork army with that one formation, or a typical space wolf army would be spent for a real spin unable to fathom how that few models messed up that much of his army by themselves. if you play in a group that lets you liberally apply forgeworld in formations you could bring predator executioners and obliterate a ground based monstrous creature heavy army thats to all kinds of monster hunter plasma weapons and power fists.

the sky silencer has interesting applications for death from the skies, take the silencers and when you kill an enemy ace just be so ridiciulously ahead of the enemy team they just give up, mop up some ground trash with the dark talon to rub it in.

as for the double demi company thing its actually pretty crazy when you consider how much free stuff your getting, with razorbacks thats potentially like 1000 points of free transports essentially turning a 1900 vs 1900 game into a 1900 vs 2900 point game which is pretty insane. so who cares if its just razorbacks and drop pods its enough that your opponent will spend an entire game wearing themselves out punching rhinos that their going to be a lot weaker than they would be if they were having to fight just those marines. just dont take it in cities of death, cause vindicator laser tank destroyers are no joke and you can quickly block entire roads with broken and wrecked tanks that way

i agree though theres lots of bad things in the codex: the deathwing as a whole are an absolute joke-a-nut tree and azreal has been reduced to a 215 point paperweight by the very nature of his phoned in rules, and the company veterans are still missing all kinds of love from the rules writers. but theres plenty of things too like and our codex is practically made for working with the new HQ command tanks because it has all kinds of absolutely rotten applications like hit & run deathwing knights, and lets not forget drop veterans with armorbane

No. You can just take the formation all on its own, alongside a CAD, Demi-Company, or some other Detachment or Formation.  You really need to read the core rulebook sections on Detachments and Formations, and then re-read the Detachments and Formations in Codex: Dark Angels to get a better understanding of how they can be put together.

For the full BS overwatch you still need a auxiliary tax. If your planning on fielding dw anyway you might was well include the DWRF in a lion's blade.

Malakithe is right. You can take a single demi company and then take a DWRF to get your lions blade. Read the example given under the Lions blade for "Adams" DA collection. Now if you are looking to get the free transports, then you would be correct as you would have to take a Full Battle Company (Two Demi Co.) to get the free pods/rhinos/razors.

The Lions Blades minimum requirement is 1 Core (Demi Co.) and 1 Aux (pick formation here) and you have a Lionsblade with full BS.

Lots of eldar players are crying loud about the gladius/LB formations because

1- you get free tansport

2- everybody is objective secured

One thing to keep in mind is that nobody in the eldar warhost is OS.

I've managed to make a list of 24 OS units for 1850 meaning it will be very hard for the eldar player to claim any objectives as it's MSU and that he cannot shot at everybody in the same time.

So yeah, nice, eldar get 6" run to get on objective but if theyre are 4 OS units around there, that will be useless...

The list I'm building for 1850/2000 is a lion's blade with 1 demi+DWRF+RWSS. Good model count, good mix of light vehicles and a drop pod, tooooons of shooty. The lion's blade is really a good detachment once you start to look at all the little things that can be packed in. Just need to mess around with all the options.
