FW Annihilator leman russ

There was I thinking we never heard of the Conqueror, must be a time of reflection amongst the Guard ;) However I think the Conqueror has more going for it in that it's a bit different (or was?), a single twin linked lascannon isn't much to write home about. Even more so on the Leman Russ chassis that is wasting some of its potential. Guard can get lascannons elsewhere if we want easily enough so I think you're better off putting another gun on - one a bit more different.

If you're not concerned with potential effectiveness then it'd be a cool conversion to work on, but if that were the case I'm guessing you wouldn't be asking!

I'm running an armoured list (from the standard AM book, not the FW armoured company) so was just looking at the best options for anti tank. I have minimal veterans in chimeras as troops and I don't really want to use them as melts squads as they will be busy with objectives.

I have thought I'd pask in a vanquisher with lascannon hull weapon and possibly melta sponsons. What else would fit with the theme?

If you're looking for AT you have a few options. The Exterminator strips HPs and destroys light armour and transports which isn't bad, and the Vanquisher can splat the tough stuff. However it really wants something to boost the accuracy, for example Pask. Otherwise don't forget the humble battle tank Russ - S8 ordnance is pretty useful at taking out enemy tanks especially with the large blast marker it can handle all but the heaviest of armour. There's also the Demolisher albeit short ranged, but it has a solid chance of doing at least some damage to whatever it hits and with AP2 a chance at more with penetration (at S10, not that hard in most cases!).

Would you consider non-Russ AT as an option? For example Sentinels, or maybe a Vendetta?

Lascannons aren't the usual armament, though I do like running a couple of Armoured lascannon Sentinels in support of advancing lines. Autocannons are solid, cheap too and work especially well on Scout Sentinels when outflanking so you can get all those side and rear armour shots. Also good for charging into assault as they can kick vehicles reasonably well and tie up back field support units. They're best kept cheap and thought of as a mobile HWT and taken in some number.

Otherwise there's loading up your infantry with them, which means you can make use of orders too. Again it's a bit of a numbers game but not difficult with a Platoon ;)
