viable seekers?

Just having a mill around the old noodle for some entertaining squad ideas, and I meander across the seekers.

I know they're a tad expensive, and I'm definitely not a power gamer, but how does a squad of 9 with a master of signal in a drop pod ( night Lords terror Row allows the drop pod ) with either combi Plas or melta sound to you chaps. This little lot knocks around the 450 mark so I'm aware it's quite a chunk of points, however if dropped behind their marked target (rerolling 1s on hit and wound), with Mos giving +1 to bs, would it not be worth it?

If you're playing ZM, Barebones Seekers can prove to be pretty Hilarious if you can Rapid Fire Tempest Bolts onto some poor squad.

20 Bs5+ 3" Blasts with Shred (even if they're S3), will be hilarious for you, frustrating for your opponent.

Otherwise, I feel that an MoS is wasted on them due to how close they'll be. They'll usually end up taking return fire and if they play their semi-DISTRACTION CARNIFEX role good, they'll get a LOT of Return Fire. Not somewhere your MoS wants to be, really.

If you use their Preferred Enemy Target properly, Combi-Plasma would probably be the safest bet since you can re-roll 1's and essentially suffer less Gets Hot! results :p

And being BS5, you're already hitting on 2s. Bumping up to BS6 means that if you do miss, on a re-roll you only hit again on a 6+, longshot but not that worth it. Vs an Imperial Fists Bolter Seeker Squad being BS6 (LA:IF) and an MoS Buffing them up to BS7 (re-roll 1s, hitting again on 5+), its not really worth it, imo.

I must've skipped over the fact they're bs 5! Seriously missed that in my reading *facepalm* yeah mos isn't really required! but still 10 dropping right where you want them and have 75 points loose to spend elsewhere. Generally I wouldn't have considered them, it's the drop pod nature that makes me think a mid game strike on their intended victims could claw back the points you spend

Well if you target their big HQ blob for the preferred enemy buff and wait for them to get into a good position for you, you stand to deal some nasty damage.

If they are a low bodycount star-unit Id consider Combi-meltas for the Instant Death unless its a Primarch-led unit. Then plasma all the way for weight of fire.

They also make decent DISTRACTION CARNIFEXs

All this talk of drop podding them in is missing an important point... you're either going to need to play Orbital Assault Rite of War or fork out the 100pts for a Dreadclaw (making the unit take 2 FA slots).

The Night Lords RoW doesnt help as it only gives Tactical, Veteran and Terror squads acces to pods.

Perhaps 5 or 6 with plasma/melta's and a Nuncio Vox Dreadclawing down to vaporise their target and then send some accurate artillery in their direction, thanks to the Vox behind enemy lines?

If you could manage to keep the vox alive into you 2nd turn, perhaps by careful placement of the Drop Pod, you could use the vox not only for accurate fire, but also to pinpoint some othet deep striking units into the fray.
