What would you take in an Ally SM force to support your BA?

Crimson Fists would make a good allied detachment. Bolter drill, so run heavy bolters with a tac squad that counts as your troop choice. Run Grav+hurricane bolter Devastators as your heavy. Chapter Master Pedro Kantor is amazing HQ choice btw.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I'd like to hear why Pedro is an excellent HQ.

As noted earlier I'm playing around with an allies Skyhammer, which is (at least so far) Imperial Fists with a devastator squad of 4 Heavy Bolters.

Pedro tanks very well and gives +1 attacks to units within 12" of him and preferred enemy Orks (Oath of Rynn) Also is a chapter master and has orbital bombardment, and gives sternguard objective secured.

And yes what Charlo said, Put Pedro in with a Centurion assault squad and they will blender things!

Centurions give Pedro Slow and Purposeful :3 as well as move through cover!

Pedro gives them all an extra attack too, so it means with the veteran upgrade you have 13 attacks at S8 AP2 armourbane at initiative! Good bye Knights.

You can also upgrade the cents to have bolters instead of frag launchers as pedro has the grenades!

And I'm doing the opposite LOL ... my main army are Crimson Fists and I'm building/painting a Blood Angels allied force of a flamer-based tactical squad, 10 jump pack death company, and my HQ is a jump pack chaplain.

But ... as time goes on I'm going to continue to build my Blood Angels from an allied detachment to a modest sized army ;)  .... They were my first army and I still have much love for them :)

You may want to read the rules for grenades again. Grenades only give the model that has them a benefit on the charge and with meltaguns grenades are hardly relevant in the shooting phase.

Oh, I thought as long as someone in the unit had grenades then it was all good charging into cover.

I'm also of the mindset that the frag launchers just provided the cents assault grenades. I do not have leagues of experience with any centurions :P
