The webway is an engineered tunnel system through hyperspace (the dimensions beyond 3D reality). In 40k the warp is hyperspace. The only thing that doesn't conform to the way we theorize hyperspace actually functioning is things traveling back through time, which is impossible in our current understanding of the universe. You can only go back to the point at which you began your journey.

My point stands though. It's a bad idea for humanity to use the Terran gateway that leads to the emperors palace. You wouldn't design a highway that leads into the Oval Office.

Erm, going faster than the speed of light doesn't imply a form of time travel?

Speed has an effect on time. Time moves slower at FTL speeds and inside the time dilation zones of super-massive black holes. Imperial technology doesn't have FTL capability, because warp travel isn't traveling faster than light, it's forcibly creating a worm hole to shorten the distance.

They made a movie about this :D

Let me rephrase: it's forcibly tearing a way into hyperspace, which allows you to shorten the distance. It isn't actually creating a worm hole. It let's you move freely in hyperspace. Wormholes are predefined paths.

Okay...... the warp being the equivalent of hypersoace doesn't stop the Webway from being an actual physical construct you can travel through on foot and even build cities in. That's all throughout the background from the Path of the Eldar to Andy Chambers Dark Eldar series to Atlas Infernal. So I'm not entirely too sure what you're going for.

Bad idea though it may be, the Terran Webway Gate was a beachhead into one of the most alien territories imaginable from one of the most secure places within the Imperium. Now it might be that later on, after the beach head was established and the Imperium began to fortify the Webway, that the gate might be moved from underneath the Imperial Palace to somewhere, but it doesn't really change the fact that being under the most secure fortress on the most secure planet in the most secure solar system is probably the best place it can be. Especially since if the Emperor could have finished exploring it, then there would have been another fortress just on the other side of the gate. It wouldn't be as though someone could take the webway door from the shower and just accidentally meander into the Imperial Palace.

Actually the Webway is a series of predefined paths according to the background........
