They should not be

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I've had an idea to start a 'half astartes' force using the militarum tempestus codex.

I would more than likely use the temestus models as a base for the force as well. Mixing in catachan and some space marine parts as well.

I'm still humming and hawing over how I think these guys should look. A lighter closer fighting looking power armour is what I would aim for but pulling it off is the tricky part lol.

The fluff again i'm still not 100% settled on. Maybe an imperial commander or mechanicus lord taking matters into his own hands after being constantly knocked back for Astartes support in a campaign that's pushing their forces to the limit. They take IG vets and push them to the surgical limits that their over aged bodies can go. Turning them into super soldiers but still shy of a fully fledged space marines (thinks luther and kor)

The campaign reaching its conclusion the commander/lord decides to erase what should never have been in the first place, greatly underestimating the force they have created and end up with a very powerful enemy.

This is very messy and flung together I hope you guys understand. I would like to know if you think it has legs and how you would go around creating such a force.

cheers guys.

The emperor is indeed a scot! Loving that username guardsman :) On the subject of gm troopers, the imperium definitely has the tech, vervunhive life guards in gaunts ghosts, vat grown muscle grafted onto pit fighters in necromunda etc. I think the only issue would be the cost, treatments are rare and expensive from most fluff. So whoever fits the bill would have to be well up there in terms of wealth, also lacking faith in the creed, suffer not the mutant etc. That probably describes half the sector lords out there, and if they are working off materiel found within a sacred relic, say charred flesh inside a fractured power fist of a legendary astartes who fell in mighty battle then it can't really be heresy. ....can it ;)

Sounds like a pretty cool and interesting idea to me, and certainly one that can fit into the 40k universe without a hitch (though then again... most things can XD)

Radu mentioned the Afriel Strain which was in WD 303 I believe (at least the UK version I have =P) and they were basically gene clones of several of the Imperiums greatest heroes. Made they good soliders (rules wise had "They shall know no fear") yet for some reason their enemies hated them extra much and they seemed cursed with bad luck (rules wise was always hit on 3+ in CC). The project was discontinued after they died horrible deaths.

There are also the Gland Warriors (mentioned in various sources). Basically much like you describe, guardsmen enhanced with forbidden techniques, muscle grafts etc. The few survivors of the regiment was taken by the inquisition and disappeared^^

So ye, your fluff idea sounds pretty sound. Certainly something that a Magos/Inquisitor/Commander (or likely a combo of them) could start tampering with.
As for models at least the Catachan arms do look like crazy vat grown muscle grafts! XD

Thanks for the reply's guys. So far so helpful so thank you.

@carraigf lol thanks man. Its always nice to see people form home pop up. I didn't realise there were as many scots on here. Even the revered BioHazard is a joc

@ Radu thanks for that man i'll be sure to look it up.

@ Tomanyprojects that sounds like an idea dude cheers.

@ Warhawk Thanks for all the info man i'll need to try and google some of that. Lol yeah that was one of the reason for catachans, that and the faces look wartorn and vetranfied (made up word?)

@ immerstrum thanks i'll make sure to check them out and let you know what I think.

This is the first time I've posted something for a while on here, something of worth anyway, been a hard year so its nice to see people helping out now I'm hoping to get back into the hobby.

I had a lot of time to mull over the concept at work today and came up with something a little more solid.

A powerful inquisitor lord who's pursuit of glory and personal advancement were more important to him than bringing the enemies of mankind to justice.

His arrogance was so colossal that he believed that nothing should be beyond his grasp and no resource beyond his to use as he saw fit in his drive for power.

It was his folly to believe that even the mighty space marine chapters should be his to use in anyway he saw fit, to throw at any situation no matter how frivolous or suicidal that situation might be.

It was during his pursuit of a rogue Magos Biologis that he saw a great opportunity unfold before him. Instead of putting the rogue priest down the inquisitor instead slaughtered his entire retinue and struck a deal with the magos.

He set in motion a plan. No longer would he be at the whim of arrogant aloof space marines.

Falsely accusing several wealthy rogue trader families of heresy he put every last member of the families to the torch but not before pilfering the entirety of said families wealth.

With his new found wealth and new friend in tow the inquisitor put his plan to create his own private army into motion.

His new super soldiers exceeded his expectations in every way but this was just the precursor. However the soldiers he and the mad magos created would not go down without a fight.

This is all I really have at the moment. Sorry if it reads like I'm drunk but im tired and unless I take my time writing, which I haven't done here, it kinda looks like I've just mashed my face repeatedly against my key board. That and I am actually really drunk lol kidding, or am I? yeah I am kidding, probably.

I have a plan to throw a 'good' inquisitor in there whos caught wind of the radical/heretical inquisitor and seeks aid from some of his disgruntled soldiers to help hunt him down. I hope this ties in with my plan to start an IQ 28 warband.

Thanks for going through the hassle of reading this mess guys.
