Info on Black Shields?

Shattered Legions are making me drool because I don't have to worry about picking a legion anymore, I can literally make models from every single legion and still have a playable force out of it (assuming the rules do allow me to do this). That's a godsend for me.

There is going to be a proper section on Blackshields in Book 6. Here is the info about them that was given out at the Forgeworld Open Day this weekend just gone:

Blackshields are space marines who have renounced their legion. Their loyalty is to themselves. They can be black or may come up with their own colours. They may be marines who are looking for their death in combat, units like the mutated Raven Guard Raptors or Fabius Bile's creations or those seeking independence.

They do not use disposable wargear. They do not have tactical squads, they have something different instead. They fight war differently to legions.

Blackshield Chymeria are warriors created and let loose with out control so they fight because they were bred to.

Blackshields will have huge variety of options including Xenos Tech. Chance for modellers to go crazy.

Hello Night Reapers.

... Further to this, and perhaps an even more sinister enigma, are the persistent reports of Space Marine forces appearing bearing no sign or seal of heraldry or origin at all, or stranger yet, heraldry which bears no mark known during the Great Crusade. A handful of extant accounts, now sealed beyond all retrieval, make reference to a loosely-termed and non-formal class of warrior known as the "Blackshields". The majority of Blackshields appear to have been of the Legiones Astartes, though some may once have belonged to other factions. In some cases the term was a literal description, the warriors having obscured the livery of their parent Legion, painting some or all of their armour's panels black to hide all former associations. ...

I'm interested to see if they provide rules for non-Astartes Blackshields.

"Can you hear, can you hear that Thunder?!?! It comes from down underrrrr..."

Thunder Warrior Blackshields?

Oh by all that is Bligh, let it be so.

Actually it will probably be more along the lines of the Alpha Legion Spartoii and other augmebted humans. But who knows. They are including genetic deviants and Bile's monsters.

Theredknight- can you link me your review!?!?! Sorry got caught up with a seafood festival and the plague :-P

I highly doubt it. The Outcast Dead established that the Thunder Warriors (asides from one known character) were disposed of near the end of the Unification of Terra. Given their mental and physiological instability, the amount of other possible survivors lasting into the age of the Heresy is pretty small, I'd say. Small enough that Bligh would probably not consider them.

Methinks early Freeblades. Forbidden tech you say? Burned Men of the Lyssatra I see. And Iron Hands who tasted the gifts of Hel. Battling for a STC databank at the edge of the galaxy, oblivious to the wider war, led only by their own interest. So many possibilities, and the book's still months away.

Thanks brotha!!! This is a great read.

Totally may be starting some black shields!!!

I'm fascinated to see the parallels to the Deathwatch Black Shields. Perhaps even some hints of how they became integrated into the organization. Were they grandfathered in? Did all the Black Shields die out by the time the Deathwatch was founded? Was the practice reinstated centuries later from the history books? And apparently marines have to be aware that becoming a Black Shield is an option, it's done by many different chapters. Perhaps the practice is described somewhere in the pages of the Codex Astartes?

So many questions! So much new lore! So much excitement!

Any hints that Horus Heresy book 6 from the Forge World would be released before New Year guys? After all they said themselves at Open Days it already went to printers?

HH masterclass book at printers, book VI is ready for the printers. They were hinting very heavily for release in Feb for the Weekender, and the timeline fits.
