Mother of God Help me

This is harder than picking my little boys name.

I play 40k Space Wolves, and i want to get into 30K, i love playing the wolves and there style, but i want to paint a different colour in 30K.

I have made it down to 2 that i like the look and colours off.

But which one, and there can only be one

Night Lords of Alpha Legion

Night Lords, Very Cool models, Like the colours. Don't like the Bat wing Helmets, but could just not use them.   I think the 40k Raptors are amazing looking models, and if could build an army of them i would.

Alpha Legion, I like the colours, i have seen some amazing Army's on this forum and google. Only really the one model i have seen for them, and it is very nice.

I had a thought of the Sons of Horus, but i fell the world would be using them and fancy having something a little different.

Maybe picking your brains might point me in a Direction.

For Night Lords go into the chaos space marine section and peruse the murderers call. Brother Heinrich, Flint13, chickenleg, Alan, Augustus b'raass, Balthamal, Aeternas and chaplain kage (i think) have night lords models worth a look see or several with some ace conversions and varying styles of paint job. Sorry if I missed anyone by the way chaps just off the top of the noggin for reference

Thank you for this, i will look right into there Army's for idea's

Very good of you

Dan the deamon. Amazing amazing conversions for night lords

Aka Papa Midnight himself.

Here's his thread. If you're going to start anywhere for the VIII Legion, start here since he's basically the root inspiration for every prominent Night Lord hobbyist on these forums.

Not trying to be a stickler, but my chosen army is Terran VIII Legion before the discovery of the primarchs, not Night Lords. That being said, there are some amazing Night Lords models on this website which should be a great inspiration to you if you choose to go with them.

Also, why not 30k Wolves? In 30k they're painted a stormy grey color, not the powdery blue-grey of the 40k time period.

Quit being a hipster about it ;) You're VIII Legion.

Truth is, I don't really dig all the grisly trophies and liked the idea of what the VIII was originally intended to do, rather than what they became. The few paragraphs on that Crimson Sons marine gave me the idea that maybe a small group of them escaped the madness that befell the rest of the Legion.

Yeah for sure, though the Bleeding Eye lenses is definitely still part of that macabre spectrum. Even in the early days they were still pulling some brutal actions. That stuff has a tendency to manifest in the psyche of those who perpetrate it. The VIII Legion was far from the only one known to take scalps, teeth, and other trophies from the slain.

Astartes may be more refined, but they are still very much Techno-Barbarian Savages, some more so than others, but nonetheless they were built to dish out savage death to a horrifying galaxy. It takes a certain kind.

I only name dropped you for inspiration as your work is incredible. Take the compliment! *grumble grumble, people these days ;) but seriously your VIII legion crimson sons are a great source of being able to do something different but still fall under the umbrella

Yup, VIth legion Wolves are a different shade of grey to their modern counterparts, and without actually having unit, company markings etc... It is difficult.

If you already do your 40K Wolves in grey rather than blue-grey I can see why another grey legion would be a drag. For my part I am enjoying staying with the Wolves, but doing a new shade of grey, as I can expand my 40K army using the 30K contingent as specials and elites etc.. The dark grey being relic armour given to the brave few.

My advice is to proxy your 40K Wolves for various legions just now and play a few games as various different legions, to see which plays best for you. That is if you are a gamer.

If you are like me and play 2-3 games per year then, take some spare Wolves and see which you enjoy painting up the most, and also go over the fluff to see which you dig the most too.

No point choosing the latest cool army if after 3 models you can't be arsed painting them.

Maybe helpful, maybe not :)

Very Helpful. I am doing my Wolves The Blue-Grey and did think about it, but i fancy a complete change.

I am enjoying the books very much and the models that are out are very nice. I seem to have it down to Night Lords or Sons of Horus.

I do play games, but i am very much all about what the models and colour look like what i am building an Army.

I will be taking my time with this buying and painting one unit at a time. I am going to pick up a box of models to work on getting the colours right.

I will be playing against Deathguard mainly with Ultramarines and Alpha Legion

Some one the modeling and painting on the links i have been given are amazing, and i hope i can get to that lvl one day

I do appreciate the name drop and the compliment. :)

Any closer to deciding on a Legion?

Yes thanks i now have it down to two from 5

Sons of Horus and Nightlords, i felt Alpha Legion is a little plain (only my opinion)

The Sons has Horus.... and Lok and some nice models the colours are ok as i have seen a few, by the looks of them, (please tell me if i am wrong) they seem to be a Melee force. Which seems to be a little bit similar to how i play my wolves

Nighlords cracking models, like the Purple/Dark Blue colour scheme, a Fear Army. Could be interesting to play and develop. But i really don't like the bat wing Helmets.

I have read the Heresy books to date, so i have a rough idea about each legion tactic's and there background, I have a few pennies put aside, and a birthday in a few days, So need to get my finger out.

It would be a good time to get into the Heresy. Rumour has it that in the next wee while we could be looking at a GW boxed set coming out with Mark 4 marines, so could be good value.

I was speaking to a workshop manager, and they 'think' it will be something like the Assassins Game,
