Fire Golem's WIP stuff

Fire Golem

Recommended Posts

So, having finally settled on a plan of action, I thought I'd start a general WIP thread for my Heresy stuff. Seeing as I could not for the life of me pick a legion and stick to it, I've decided I'm going to do models from all the legions, and use the Shattered Legions rules in the upcoming book to play them. Not sure how the rules will work out yet, but this lets me try my hand at every legion and still have a playable force at the end. If I discover I like modelling one/a couple of legions more than the others, I can then expand them into a full force.

Not much to show to start with, just a couple of models I've built that I'm pretty happy with. First up is a Sons of Horus Sergeant/maybe Centurion or something:

The other one is a Space Wolf, I'm really happy with the pose on this guy:

I tried to cut the eye/mark of aversion into his shoulder:

Sorry for any rubbing photos. Any C&C welcome.

Thanks! The Wolf is my favourite too.

And yeah he is looking down, and it wasn't intentional, but I think I'm going to base him on a rock or something slightly higher so it looks like he's stepping down something. The pose looks like he's stalking someone so I think it'll work.

  • 4 months later...

Been a little while since I've posted any models, working on a couple at the moment. First up are test models for Night Lords and Alpha Legion (both WIP). The NL scheme is based off of Loddfafnir113 scheme, from here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318642-i-shall-wear-midnight-loddfafnir113s-viiith-legion/. It still needs lightning, and I'm not sure it's dark enough, but I'm fairly happy. The Alpha Legion scheme was an experiment, and I think it might be a bit dark and a bit green, but I thought I'd get some feedback.

The other one is a kitbash I'm working on that I think looks cool, but I don't have a clue what to use it for. I don't think any characters can take a shotgun so it's gonna have to be counts as if I ever play it. Thinking a Night Lord or an Iron Warrior, maybe:

Loving the mix of bits on these guys! And thanks for answering something thats been buzzing round my head for a while: MkIV and MkV do look great together.

The night lords looking good, but I agree he's a little bit light. Did you drybrush runefang before the first glaze? If so it might have just been a bit heavy. I've found a watered down purple wash darkens them a bit, and a black recess wash will deepen it down a bit. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Yeah I like MkIV and MkV together too - makes it seem more brutal, I think.

Thanks! I did do runefang steel, but I thought it was light - I could barely see it! I did think maybe I went too far with the original dark silver drybrush? Or just not enough with the blue.

I went fairly heavy with leadbealcher, so I think you're safe there. How many coats of glaze did you do? I did three but I probably didn't thin mine down as much as I should have.

Also quick tip, best to avoid bronze shoulder rims. I gave it a go, ended up with an ultramarine :P

Can we get some more pictures of the Shotgun-armed Marine?

Blackshield Marauders can take Shotguns, so I might take inspiration from yours if I may be so bold :)

Sure, I'll take some more when I'm home tomorrow :) it is actually a scout arm, but the mix of power armour and less armoured arm should work okay for a Blackshield?

Aged bronze should be fine for the shoulder trim - just hit it with a few washes of a brown color.

I did three coats of undiluted glaze, so I either did lighter coats, or I went heavier on the runefang than I thought!

As for the trim, I was mainly going to do silver as I prefer it, but I might try some aged bronze here and there for variety.

I like that bronze. The model as a whole is fantastic, actually.

Thanks! Originally I was going to do all of the feather decorations and the rest of the trim in bronze, but I did the shading on the base coat first and really liked the look of it. The Vallejo bronze color I use is really bright, so it took a lot of washes to tone it down to what you see.

For Lord-Commander Macarian, a few more pics of mr Shotgun:

The shotgun arm is from the Space Marine scout biker, in case you weren't aware.
