Damocles Rhino

Greetings all

I dont own book 5 unfortunately so this may be obvious too some and not other.

The Damocles rhinos reserve roll modifier - is that just my reserves or both mine and my opponents?

For context in looking to boost my AL reserve denial shenanigans. I know the Proteuss can do it but i wondered if there was any other way.

Regards

This should be in rules not Tactica I think

To answer the question though, the Damocles allows the controlling player to subtract or add 1 to any reserve roll they make while the Damocles is in play. So it only affects your resrve rolls, not your opponents. The way it does affect your opponents is if they suffer a deep strike mishap. If this happens while your Damocles is on the board they suffer a -1 modifier to the mishap roll only.

It's useful for Dreadclaws given the fact that they don't have inertial guidance, and a 24 inch deep striking bubble is great if you're brave enough to run Justaerin. Black Reaving is only really a 'deep strike' RoW if you go full Dreadclaw, so it does synergise reasonably well.

The main problem with the Black Reaving is the taxes it imposes on you though (3x troops, 1x Master of Signal) and a Damocles is yet another 100 point tax on top of those, when there are already other ways of boosting reserves chances (& the Sons of Horus have their passive re-rolling of 1's, which makes them better than other Legions already, and as Masters of Signal don't do well in cc units it is probably more effective to leave him behind a defence line with a comms relay & a unit whose BS he can boost). So of course it works but it will probably only come into its own in larger games. It depends what you rate more, reliability or hitting power.

I don't bother running one with my SoH anymore because of how easy a target the Damocles is on turn 1 to enemy drop pod assaulters.
