norngahl
Anyone uses them? I mean for 190 points you will get 6 wounds, fearless, 15 power weapon attacks (assuming 4 swords, 1 axe) and immunity to mist power weapons. With a praetor (paragon blade, vpid shield harness) they are immune to small weapon fire and will make it into combat, a dreadclaw delivers them. Will chew through anything but terminators with ease. Even other elite units. Thoughts? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314830-command-squads/ Share on other sites
Slips
I tired to use them in a Couple of ZM Games but, due to TERRIBAD Run moves (the average was ~2"), they did jack and were a massive disappointment. Otherwise, they're pretty nice budget-ish Unit that can bring the pain. They're also great challenge blockers for Legions such as the IF or EC where we're forced to Issue (and in the case of EC, accept) Challenges so that our Beatstick Doesn't get sniped dealing with a Sargeant; unless its Sigismund, at which point his rules Override but, whatever. Only downside is their Apparent Lack of Ranged Options unless in TDA. Only being able to swap to a Combi-Bolter or Volkite Charger is meh as well as not being able to swap when on a Bike / Jetbike. A 6" Fearless Bubble is just icing on the cake. But yes, I agree, if running a Command Squad I'd probably always give the unit a Void Shield Harness because they make for a really juicy target and mitigating ANY damage is good. I'd also strongly consider Combat Shield to make them 2+/5++ in CC when not using TDA since, once again, we're blessed with superior tech when compared to 40k :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314830-command-squads/#findComment-4195468 Share on other sites
Brofist
I would put them on bikes. That makes them cheaper and more choppy than jet bikes, but with a 2+ save and all the other nice benefits. Also T5. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314830-command-squads/#findComment-4195504 Share on other sites

norngahl
Bike idea is a cheap option, personally but I'd rather prefer them in a dreadclaw arriving turn two as I have a dread in dreadpod as well. This way you have to kill the pod and then the voidshield, which is more extra protection than the bikes with t5. Don't know about zone mortalis, but again, with a voidshield praetor they are nicely protected against most of the fire they will face. At least they block out the shooting of a whole unit for at least one round. Assuming there is few space and propably only 1 unit can point their guns at them. Combat shields seem to be a must have. Even if it saves only a single member, they were worth the points. Noserenda
Command Squads are badass and the fearless bubble on a 1 objective game is a pure winner. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314830-command-squads/#findComment-4195963 Share on other sites
Memento Of Prospero
I never leave home without them. Cost efficient and great clean up crew. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314830-command-squads/#findComment-4195978 Share on other sites
JagoSevatarion
I've had a lot of success with jet bike mounted NL squad. Expensive but great for multi assaults. Even had them give the smackdown on Angry Ron. Ok muliple hvy bolter shots did help and some bad rolls from the opposition and some good ones from me did help. Lord Blackwood
Do you reckon taking a command squad over a specialized assault unit ( Templar Brethren ) would be a better way to save points? Or are the specialized assault units just better if a little bit less durable ? Slips
5 Templar are cheaper than 5 CS with 5 Power Weapons and both come with 2+ armor Saves. Both squads at 5 men also have the same number of wounds (6) due to the Champion and Standard Bearer. On the One Hand, the Templars, except for the Champion, are stuck with Power Swords whilst the Command Squad Isn't. They also have a Fearless Banner but, if you're using Templar With Sigismund they're fearless anyways. On the other hand, Templar can go up to 10 Bodies and have Furious Charge but, the Command Squad can be equipped to mirror the HQ they're being bought for ie: TDA Jump Packs Bike/Jetbikes. Both can take, in non TDA, Squad Wide Melta Bombs and Combat Shields. In this Particular case, its up to your personal preference, really. For other Legions, this might not be. TemujinZero
Templars make for a poor command squad for Sigismund in my opinion. Sigismund is built for taking the enemy warlord's head, while Templars are built for tearing through power armoured squads. If the soon to be dead warlord has a terminator bodyguard, those Templar power swords are as good as spoons. I run a command squad with power axes, one fist, and combat shields to accompany Sigismund. A separate Templar squad can then run down power armour without wasting Sigismund on tactical sergeants. depthcharge12
CommNd squad on regular bikes is probably the best in points efficiency. They already have a 2+ save, so you're gaining 12" movement, T5, jink, and HoW. Is that a legion specific option, or have I really missed something in the little red book? Hesh Kadesh
Legion Command Squads are the name of the squad. They simply have the option of taking Terminator Armour. An apothecary cannot take Terminator Armour, but can still be attached to the squad. Terminator Ccommand Squads aren't an actual squad name. Charlo
I think jet bikes work nicely as it essentially let's you have an out of slot fast attack choice, with decent fire power and nice combat prowess. Works well in any RoW where your fast choices may be limited.
