Dosjetka
The product of two days of intensive assembly/kitbashing: - Icon Bearer and Aspiring Champion - Two Astartes with plasma guns - The six remaining Astartes with boltguns And, finally, a group shot + + + + + + As you can see, the Icon Bearer has no icon. I'm a bit stumped as to what to give him, as I'm not overly keen on the Chaos Undivided one that comes with the basic CSM kit. Any suggestions for alternatives welcome. This lot will get their black undercoat and, if I manage, their first coat of red paint tomorrow. The aim is to have them all fully painted by the end of the week, with their attached Rhino if I can. Teetengee
Could you model an impaled guardsman as an icon? Or perhaps only part of a disemboweled one? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196109 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
Tricky. My GS skills are almost non-existent. However, I could perhaps get my hands on Lord Zhufor's impaled Commissar bit. Hum... Nah, not going to happen. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196112 Share on other sites
Warsmith Aznable
You could cut the skeleton off the Nurgle icon and lash him to the generic Chaos icon. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196118 Share on other sites
Iron-Daemon Forge
Flagellants kit has some cool banner you could use & paint some cool icon or use the FW transfer sheet, along with some other parts you can add to the Word Bearer (?). Scourged
If you look at the bits for the AoS lines, you'll find a bunch of different banners and icons to use. The Warriors of Chaos set has a nice one that's good and Undivided. Dosjetka
Good suggestions all, thank you, brothers. I've settled for the eight-pointed star from the Chaos Marauder Horsemen. Iron-Daemon Forge
After your IF Chaplain conversion, would be really cool to see your take on a Dark Apostle Dosjetka. Will you also be useing any of the Forge World Horus Heresy Word Bearer kits toward your army? Dosjetka
Funnily enough, I was thinking about Dark Apostles, but for the moment it's the Coryphaus I'm interested in. But fear not, a Dark Apostle will appear sometime in the near future :) Also, not too sure about Forge World Word Bearer bits. When I order from them, I usually go for very generic bits that I can use for any project (since I jump from project to project very often) because it's all so bleedin' expensive. I might change my mind later on down the road, but for now I'll stick with what's in my bitz box :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196320 Share on other sites
Midnightmare
Nice mix of bitz man, makes for a really distinctive squad (I also like how you removed the belt Fed ammo on the boltgun for a magazine) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196514 Share on other sites
MaliGn
All sorts of bits and pieces can be combined together to make icons, most generic fantasy/AoS parts would work, plus aforementioned flagellant kit has many other bits and bobs that can be arranged to make banners, especially for Word Bearers. A spare Daemon Prince loincloth could work as a starting point, as could a variety of chaos warrior/knight shields. Dosjetka
Midnight: Cheers, man! I'm glad someone noticed the effort gone into building these chaps ;) I probably spent a good 45-60 minutes per model, trying to get the right bits together. MaliGn: Very true. I'll keep that in mind for the next few icons I have to do :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4196595 Share on other sites
MaliGn
Building unique icons for my units amd trhy poled for my champions is one of my favourite bits of the hobby. Dosjetka
I really enjoy kitbashing (as you have seen with the models in post #1), perhaps even as much as painting, but I'm still rather new to Chaos and have very few Chaos-themed bits in my boxes. Anyway, I wasn't as productive as the last two days today, but I still managed to ge the whole squad undercoated and the Rhino is about 90% assembled. It looks rather bare at the moment, but I'll be adding (im)purity seals, skulls and Chaos stars tomorrow. I'd also like to add some candles, but except for sculpting some, I'm not sure I can achieve that. Any ideas? Slave to Darkness
The chaos star from the defiler kit makes a nice banner top. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4197137 Share on other sites
Scourged
Spellcrow has the Librarium kit: a set of candles, skulls, and open/closed books. http://www.spellcrow.com/librarium-set-p-129.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4197178 Share on other sites
Thedarkprincesnun
Nice stuff so far. As slave has already stated the defiler has a nice chaos star banner there are also a few Daemonic masks in there which could work too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4197384 Share on other sites
Midnightmare
Candles you say? What about cut down, teeny, tiny electronical wire? Remove the actual wire and just leave the sleeve? EDIT Check out one of Adam's Land Raiders over on the Dice Abide, I think that is the technique he has used - http://www.thediceabide.com/2013/09/a-tale-of-two-chaos-land-raiders/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4197402 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
Thanks for all of the suggestions! I think I'll tempt fate and sculpt my own and see how it goes. Who knows, perhaps I'll turn out to be a rather decent sculptor, too :teehee: Today's aim is to finish off the Rhino (hopefully, with sculpted candles) and basecoat the red armour on the whole squad. I'll post pictures up tonight, as per usual. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314861-the-19th-host/#findComment-4197455 Share on other sites
