Imperial Army minis.

So, still jumping from idea to idea and now I was having a look at the tempest imperial army rules. So I was wondering how you would represent the imperial army in miniatures? Cadia seems like the logical step, but they have such a traditional 40k look that it just feels like the cheap option. Another option would be Death Korps, but then again they are so popular in 40k that they could easily be confused.

So, how would you do it? Cadia with some simple conversions? I'm just cruising for ideas here.

The Imperial Army is almost as diverse as the Guard, so you can do what you like really. If you wanted to use current models then some modification would be a good idea to help differentiate them. The Imperium before the Heresy is quite different to the one afterwards. Stuff like removing all the skulls would go a long way, though Guard models don't tend to have loads. Maybe removing aquilas too would help there.

HH seems to have a more "retro" look in some regards so perhaps weapons swaps to something more raygun could also add to the theme?

Alright, I will be keeping the aquilas since it's the symbol of the Imperium and its use is widespread across all imperial sectors, be it astartes, military or administrative. Your suggestion for removing the skulls is a good idea, I have always felt that the skulls represented the Emperor after his "death", so it's a post-heresy aesthetic.

I've been looking through the AM resources and found these kits:

I think that those kits combined with cadian shock troops could make some nice distinctive army troopers, although it probably looks more like carapace than flak armor. And maybe some backpacks sculpted with greenstuff (it LOOKS easy enough to do :P )

I personally plan on doing 2 Imperial Army forces:

The Meirian Iron Vanguard utilising a bunch of Cadians I've had sitting here unassembled since the IG became the AM. They're the most "army" looking option we have at the moment, and will form my Army part of the force. (Warrior Elite for sure, not positive on what else).

I'm using the Wargames Factory Greatcoat Shock Troops as Militia forces, Levies and the like. (Alchem-jackers for sure).

The differences will mostly be in the fluff. I'm one of those people who has to come up with entire backgrounds for my armies, stories and everything. The Iron Vanguard and the Jackals will be very, very different, despite the similarities in the army compositions themselves.

I'm the same with the fluff for my armies and in what scenario they are fighting when I'm going to paint them. That's why I'm looking for ideas for my Hessian Regiments, right now I'm trying to see how I can make it fit into the Horus Heresy.

Their regiments are small than the usual IA/IG regiments, but trained beyond the usual capabilities of a regular guardsmen and better equiped, so in 40k that would be count-as veterans with carapace armor instead of the regular troops (which would also save me some € because of the fewer troops). I guess for 40k I could use the IA grenadier rules which are more or less the same as veterans.
