One_happy_hippy
Building a Lions Blade and going to build up a Command squad and a ridiculously armed Company vets squad with loads of combi melta / combi Grav, Multimelta, Grav gun and a shed load of power fists, TH&SS etc as a ridiculous kill all unit that will likely only get used in apoc games where points cost are moot and foot sloggers will be confined to side boards where killing power to take and hold objectives will mean big differences on the main board. The command squad I'm less sure how to arm either apothecary and four Grav guns and sacred standard to give relentless or four Melta guns. Both are going to be prodded. The vets I think will be joined by the Chaplin and Azreal for 4++ and Zealot etc for a close combat bonus and the combi weapons for either a single round of firepower or repelling charges on overwatch at LB BS. Therefore do I take the melta for the command squad as an anti amour specialist unit at close range or the Grav guns for max Grav spam? The LB will have 10man dev with 3 x Grav guns & 1 x melta. 3 x 5man Tac. 2 with Las and 1 missile launcher. I foresee the Tacs as a one shot unit to use to hit armour at range and be a distraction choice for enemy fire. The devs will also be podded with the intention to drop them in to the midst of the everything and just F stuff up. With this in mind does the melta option seems best as I already have plenty of Grav spam with the devs but only three long range anti-armour shots with the Tacs. What say the brotherhood? Chaplain Lucifer
I would go with the grav, because that many grav weapons can strip armor of a tank if needed be... but they are a lot more killy-er vs an infantry squad. Interrogator Stobz
+1 If you need melta, add it by RWAS MM Attack bikes. Far more likely to get in range unless you suicide the CS in a pod, and with scout and/or outflanking you can scare the opponent into the middle of the table. One_happy_hippy
Mmmm. I was planning on a RWAS with MM attack bike and MM LS. I also planned on a RWCS so I could give them two of the Melta Guns. Have them as a faster moving melta striking unit. Mmm might have to track down a few more Grav Guns... One_happy_hippy
Also I have just bought a Deredeo Dread with the auto cannon battery which does give me some more anti armour options. Malakithe
Can't take that in a lion's blade thou which sucks. I would love to field a command squad and company vets if I can figure out how to deliver the vets Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315001-da-command-melta-or-grav-tooled-up-vets-in-lions-blade/#findComment-4199305 Share on other sites
One_happy_hippy
The Deredeo will be part of a CAD with the some scouts and the balance of the RW. I have to have a separate CAD to the LB if I want to use my Warhound anyway. SnakeChisler
I'd go grav, http://www.kromlech.eu/news/new-release-gravity-distorters,176.html Currently there are no Grav weapon sprues from GW (Malakithe) As for it sucking not taking forgeworld 30k stuff in standard codex formations that may be included (opponent permitting) to spice up your games of 30/40k the quite unreasonable attitude of wanting all the benefits of buffs from a standard codex sucks in my opinion. Most Forgeworld stuff is pretty reasonable points wise and adds some flavor to your force giving a Forgeworld Dread Grim Resolve, Objective secured and a Free Drop pod as well as removing the points tax of a CAD is completely unreasonable Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315001-da-command-melta-or-grav-tooled-up-vets-in-lions-blade/#findComment-4199451 Share on other sites
Malakithe
Oh I love FW stuff. I have a mortis contemptor and a sicaran. The contemptor can be easily used as a counts as. One_happy_hippy
I went to Spellcrow for grav guns http://www.spellcrow.com/gravity-guns-p-197.html?language=en¤cy=USD The next big apoc game will be FW left right and center! One_happy_hippy
Wonder if for the command squad if Apothecary, 2 x vets with grav gun + power maul and 2 x vets with grav gun + power fist and a sacred standard is overkill... Maximum concussiveness before I bring the power fists down! Chaplain Lucifer
It is overkill. Once you shower your opponents with grav, they will want the command squad dead. That means they will probably won't have the chance to use to close combat weapons. Plus, you will want your command squad, firing that grav all the time. One_happy_hippy
I'm all about the overkill :P As I said these two units will likely be apocalypse only so points are less important than maximum killability! To that end the Vet squad will likely be: 2 x Combi Melta w/ power maul 2 x Combi Melta w/Lightning claw 2 x Combi Grav w/ power maul 2 x Combi Grav w/Lightning claw 1 x Multi melta 1 x Grav gun Joined by the Chaplin for Zealot (re-roll attack first round of combat) and Azreal for 4+ invun and 'For the Lion' Warlord Trait (Furious charge - + 1 strength) so 12 x S7 ap4 reroll to hit concussive attacks and 12 x S5 ap3 reroll to hit, re-roll to wound attacks on the first charge. Muhahahahaha etc. Unless you can recommend so more killy combos?
