Im basing my army entirely around the scene in Know no fear where Ventanus defends the old data engine. Mostly made up of marines, some vehicles, skitarii. I am expecting to get slaughtered every game i play, and im ok with that.

Personally I can't wait to festoon the Leviathan in spikes and run it at Loyalists. Gorgeous model

I also think the rules are pretty good, it suffers from 'nearly knight cost' syndrome but compared to things like my beloved (and terrible) Justaerin I think it will be easily workable!

I really want one for my night lords, but the sicaran is one of the best when you're limited to one HS slot and I'm not sure how replacing it would work out

Drape a couple of Flayed Skin  cloaks  on its forearms , do a necklace of hobby skulls on chains wrapped around the torso , have a half skinned guy  sitting on a banner on its back

Murderers First , Last , and always

I find it difficult to infer a WAAC mindset from what Ishagu said though. He offered strong points as to why he did not think the unit was terribly attractive. They arent unfair to the unit really nor did they strike me as particularly untrue.

I definitely agree with you on a lot of th points, especially the part about trying to make your favorite models fit into lists. However, there's a theme in this head about equating waac with competitive players, which isn't accurate or fair.

Whoa whoa whoa, don't put words in my mouth. I did not infer that all competitive players are in fact WAAC gamers, nor did I infer the same about Ishagu. In fact I clarified my opinion in the second post I made. I'm guessing that wasn't clear. But I'll say it again, nothing wrong with a competitive mindset. Enjoy the game however you want. However competitive play does not seem (from my experience and from what I've seen in this community and others) to be the majority draw of the Horus Heresy. Most people get into it in the first place because of the history and/or models. No one wants to lose every time they play a game however and so we are all competitive to a greater or lesser degree.

WAAC Gamers (again not pointing fingers at anyone here) are poisonous to the enjoyment of this game because they deliberately look for loopholes, capitalize on poorly worded rules, and take armies engineered to smash other people. 30k and the units within provide some truly horrid combinations (especially where the Mechanicum is concerned), but the 30k community by and large seems to understand there's a line. I don't know why this is, but it's a good thing. All the reasons I left 40k behind don't exist in the 30k setting and gaming environment and I'm glad for it.

Heinrich, the problem is your definition of waac can be directly applied to normal, competitive players. Making strong lists and taking advantage of how the rules work shouldn't be stigmatized; why should someone be looked down on for having a more complete knowledge of the game? Having said that I'm pretty sure, I know what you were trying to say, that people who actively make the game a worse experience for the sake of winning suck, but this often has to do more with their attitude and how they treat the opponent rather than pure use of rules and list building. If I shoot my ordinance weapons last on my vehicles to get around the snap fire does that make me a waac gamer because I know the order of operations?

No, what would make you WAAC is if you built your army list with the expectation you would totally crush your opponent in round one and when you didn't, then your opponent must obviously be cheating and if you ever lost a game because someone else simply plays better than you or had the luck of the dice on their side, you turned into a sore loser but when you win, you shove it in their faces.

Yes, it is an attitude. An attitude that is reflected in their list. That isn't a competitive mindset. A competitive mindset, to me, expects to be challenged, to have a fight on their hands. Yes, they are playing to win, but they want to earn that win, not completely steamroll their opponents because they think they should win.

While I think th Leviathan is a cool concept, I think I am one of the few who do not like the aesthetic of the model.

Looks like the dread decided it was cold outside so they slung a ceramite puffa jacket over him, either that or its a centurion for contemptor dreads (I put this suit of armour in another suit of armour :p )

Dudes we still have a day of GW shenanigans to go don't get the open day gubbins thread nuked via the medium of talking about waac. Cheers brothers. There's still some new pretty pictures due I believe

Still on the topic of dreadnoughts, I'm disappointed at the announcement of that Contemptor Cortus. Because that means the Wolves/Sons will have models before we get the Furibundus. Only then will my need to make a Terran dead company be satiated. Castraferra, Contemptors, Deredeos, Leviathans, Corti, and Furibundi clanking, systematically crushing traitors (or loyalists, or both, I'm still not set) under their hydraulic feet and choomrays. I don't care if putting dreads in every slot isn't legal, I don't even know how to play. Dreads for the Omnissiah, grease for the grease throne.

Skalpynock, I think you are safe on that front... Siege of Terra will be done before the Space Wolves appear on Prospero :p We are in a DA shoulderpad scenario here :D

I cant even muster any excitement or annoyance over Prospero now, I do not care.. Its something promised for so long and never happened, I'll only believe it when the book hits the shelves

For me I am looking forward to seeing if we can glean anything new today than be learned tomorrow.

GW/FW/BL are not dumb enough to think that none of what was presented yesterday, hasn't already gone around the interwebs. So hopefully some new and exciting shinies, or at least info to come.

If not I feel really bad for those who are there for both days.

Off-topic: in 30K I have yet to even build a list, I know I asked and Slips helped out, but that was it, just to see if my assortments might be legal. I love the fact there is so much depth to 30K, so much history and great story telling. Not just from FW but from the community here as well. Almost like I dunno, interactive history? I buy models because I like the look of them 90% of the time. I might end up with 15 HS units and only 2 FA, but it isn't because of game play its because to me it looks freakin beautiful.

Maybe at some point I'll make a list and work out what goes where, or just scream APOC!!! and throw it all down for a laugh, who knows. But to me, 30K is rich history, amazing stories and beautiful models (both FW and here from the folks of B&C)

On topic, what did folks think of the legion artwork for book 6? And what is a black shield Khymerae??

And what is a black shield Khymerae??

Hyænidæ put it better than I ever could:

Black Shields are not an order, it is a title for one who once bore the colors of their Legion with pride, but now have turned on their old oaths and stripped the heraldry from their plate in either disgust or even punishment.

It is the closest we have to an under-class amongst the Legions; Brothers without a brotherhood. Outcasts. The lowest of the low. And in this essence, possibly the most devoted to their ideology.

Some fight alone. Some group together in loose, untrusted squads to raise Hell. Some loyal, some not. All that matters to them is that they stand for their beliefs, even if their defiance casts them as pariahs for all time.

And Khymeræ means chimera, a mythological monster made of various beasts, which I guess isn't the blackshield's real name, but rather a nom de guerre he took at the same time he took the black livery.

I loved the artwork from book 6 that was shown, particularly the blood Angels.

Is that up on Battle Bunnies?
Well this was on DakkaDakka:

But I assumed they'd come from here or BattleBunnies originally, not sure.

Yeah, I found them on Battle Bunnies. Interestingly enough, I found this in their description for Black Shield:

Black Shields - turncoat marines (mad, revenge, experiments, space pirates) neither good or bad alien weapons and mutations- genetically changed

Don't use stuff which is disposable

Marauder squad 15 man loads of different weapons

Anyone know where I can find more information that elaborates on this? I apologize if it was already posted and I missed it.

Was wondering since the additional attack for having two close combat weapons is included in the profile if you swap out one of the claws for the grav or the storm it does lose an attack right?

Yep, says it in the rules.

I really want one for my night lords, but the sicaran is one of the best when you're limited to one HS slot and I'm not sure how replacing it would work out

Depends on your AA cover from the lord of War or Fast Attack slots (Avenger Strike fighters, hobba hobba), but I'd struggle to find a reason for not fielding a Deredeo. They can be static but if there are no flyers, you're golden.

Edit; missed the warning, sorry BCk

Really - someone in Dakka Dakka just took the pictures I took and posted them?!???!

How rude!!!
