Armageddon - ADB

So I have two questions for you my Brothers!

  • Is Armageddon (Premium Paperback) just Helsreach and Blood and Fire consolidated into one handy book?
  • Would you consider these books a centre piece in understanding Black Templar, and if so why?

I've only read Helsreach - it gave me more of an insight into the Templar psyche...and ZEAL laugh.png It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I wasn't unpleasantly surprised, save the very minimal role the Sisters had in the story (which amounted to a few lines if I recall correctly) I can't comment on Armageddon though. It's on the list of books to read.

Edit, the second - just noticed that this is your first post. Welcome to the B+C! thumbsup.gif

2. As long as you're not too hung up on the details, sure. They're about 4th edition Templars, not the 6th edition version. That really makes very little difference to the core of what makes a Templar a Templar, but that didn't stop the BT forum crying about it for 18+ months.

I never read Blood and Fire, but Helsreach is something of a holy text among Templar fans. It conflicts with the (lousy) new fluff only in a few rare points, i.e. Grimaldus spurning a Sister and the notion of the Ecclesiarchy's superiority, whereas the new fluff has them bowing to that particular cult. That's like 2 paragraphs out of the whole book.

Helsreach is very good, but Blood and Fire might just be my favorite thing AD-B has written. I can't really explain why though laugh.png

There is a small part in Helsreach where Grimaldus is remembering the last stand of the Shadow Wolves chapter. That little bit gave me chills, it was just so epic. Well, pretty much all of Blood and Fire felt like that.

1. Yes.

You wanna start it again? Keep being condascending.

I neglected part of the #2 question, specifically the "why."

Helsreach (again, never read Blood and Fire) illustrates the ideals and dispositions of the Templars by switching back and forth between Grimaldus' first person perspective and more typical third person writing.  Grimaldus is dealing with some issues in the book, which skews his point of view on events, while the more general third person demonstrates more Chapter-wide behavior and ideals.

If I were to concisely sum up the disposition of the Templars and how it is well portrayed in Helsreach, it would be "pitiless, zealous and hateful."  But in a good way.  Or at least the grimdark definition of "good."

I think I might want to pick up Helsreach, it sounds like an interesting book.

It's been the reason several board members site for starting their Templar armies. Flint has blamed it, and me. laugh.png

I might give it a whirl then.

They need to make a Black Templar book all about how that one guy murdered a Daemon Prince with just his combat knife, that sounds like a pretty radical story.

You will thank yourself for reading Helsreach. What a great freaking book....written by the allfather himself.

What ADB is Odin?

And so much more

I always thought of Odin as having...y'know, hair?  ;)

So slightly back on topic, I actually re-read Helsreach just a few days ago.  As far as conflicts between the old, true and proper fluff and the abominable lies about Templars in C:SM being present in the novel, there are very, very few times where the conflict pops up.  So that's cool :)

The story of the Celestial Lions is one of the coolest ones I've seen done of old fluff. I remember reading about that in Codex Armageddon and wondering about it. ADB did an amazing job with it.

Also the Black Templars story is really good. But Celestial Lions. Seriously awesome.
