Night Lords - New player

Good day,

Having played 40k for a while, my friends are moving to 30k,  with much help from the peeps here i am going to be building a Night Lord Force.

We have decided that 1000pts is the starter for us and we can take it from there.

I have started by buying sevatar,  as he is a very cool model.

I am looking for an idea roughly on how to start the force, that can be built on.  I really like the Night Raptor units, and if i could build a force with them that would be cool.  I am not building a list to compete in a tournament, would like to build it to the fluff.

I have had a good look over the Army Lists, any pointers in the right direction would be great, as i said not looking for a list to build, just idea's

cheers

Firstly allow me to welcome you to the VIII legion. 1000 points matches aren't best for out current Rite of war so I'd recommend running a delegatus using his ROW. Gives you a good foundation for smaller games and leaves points for you to add some flavour. Or you could run the NL ROW and take 3 minimum terror squads. The choices are many and varied

Thanks for the welcome.

I have been  looking over the list written by others and see they don't go as low as 1k.  so thought this might have been an issue.

the 1k was to get us started, so we can learn the game, we would be moving up as people buy models.

From your post ROW are a big part of games??  This i will need to look into more

The rights of war just make taking fluffy armies more effective by adding buffs while limiting some of the choices of units you can take. The one for night lords is a bit limiting at lower points games though unfortunately. A friend of mine has recently made the attempt to play at 1250 with the night lords right of war and it didn't work out very well.

All the NL lists I've seen use the Terror rite of war, but I don't think it's an issue since it's quite fluffy and gives you some great units.

I'd run a 10-15 man squad of Night Raptors and some terror squads as they're smaller, more flexible, and will get you transitioned much more quickly :)

Failing that, I'd run 20 man tactical squads with extra close combat weapons as NLs get a bunch of cc bonuses with big squads.

For a heavy support choice, you can't really go wrong with a Deredeo dreadnought.

The Dread is very cool looking. I will look into the squad numbers.

Is it worth while building a force around Sevatar? Who has just arrived today :-) so so happy about that hahaha
