Fluffy Luna Wolves Ideas

Lunar Centurion

Recommended Posts

I've run into a bit of a block. I don't know how to fluff-ify my Luna Wolves drop army. I want to expand them a bit, but I don't know what to do, so I need some ideas. I'd probably expand to 1500, so here's what I've got so far, but I don't know where to go from here. Maybe some Terminators? I don't want to spend tons of money either. So... yeah. That's all I got; Here's the Reaver build I thought about:

Fast Attack: Reaver Attack Squad

-Jump Packs

-Power Axe on the Sgt

-Art. Armor on the Sgt

-4 Chainaxes

Get Loken and throw him in a big tac squad with combat blades or maybe even in some veterens with furious charge and spiffy weapons! You could even model a praetor as Torgaddon and have him head up another squad like Loken. I just read the first three HH books and I was inspired to do this for a bit haha. Then you could have Abaddon roll up with some Justarrians mmm love it.

Funny, yesterday I just read through the fluff over and over again to build a pure fluffbunny list. Still, sone questions are left, maybe someone else can answer them.

From what I found in HH1 book, storm eagles and lightnings for quick assault raids. Tacticals were the prefered units of Horus, so you should go this way. Additional CCW were a thing, as are BP/CCW tacticals aka despoilers.

From BL fluff, they preffer orbital assaults via drop pods, still loving tacticals and CC the most.

Both sources fit their rules to make the best out of reserves and CC when you go big. So does the trait "black reaving", as it forces you to take a light but swift force.

Problem is points. 1 blob with storm eagle is at least 460 points, with some usefull stuff its over 500..

My question about fluff:

Lunar/SoH weren't organised in chapters and bataillons but only in companies, each between 36-300 men.. lets say its 100 on the average. How the hell does horus know about 1300 captains in person. And how does a mission briefing look like? And how is the internal ranking between the captains, as a praetor and a centurion both just seem to have 100 men under their command.

So I could add CCWs to my Tactical Squad, take some Reavers, and then maybe a Justaerin or Cataphractii Terminator Squad? Or 20 Tacticals in a Storm Eagle? (All with CCWs)

Yeah I was reading some BL stuff too and thought the Luna Wolves would be awesome in a DS list, both fluffwise and rulewise.

I thought during the Heresy/Great Crusade companies were a thousand marines, so he would only need to know 130, but I may be entirely wrong.

In HH1 there is a legion organisation chart..

1 legion consists of say 100.000 men, divided in 100 chapters of roughly 1.000 men. This chapters are divided in 2 bataillons, each about 500 men strong. And these are divided into 5 companies, each company numbering around 100 men.

SoH fluff mentions companie strenghts from 36-ca. 300..

If necessary, companies get grouped together under the command of a senior officer, forming a so called "Speartip". There is only horus, company captain, sergeants.

So.. I assume, some companies are led by a praetor ranked captain, some are led by a delegatus ranked captain and some are led by a centurion ranked captain.

So.. as there is only horus and directly officially equally ranked leaders, horus must be responsible for electing the captains..

That's why I wonder how mission briefings look like. Or if he knows all of his captains personally. Or if the equal rank is just a formal ran and Horus there is an informal command structure instead..

Anyone knows?

Either you swap the bolter to make tacticals to despoiler squads, or you upgrade them with CCW..

Storm eagles are pretty expensive for the damage output.. but it's still better than the kharybdis.. and the only way to transport 20 men, beside a spartan.. but to fit fluff, it should be flying.

Don't mix in justaerin or reavers, as fluffwise they fight on their own and don't side with regular troops. Unless you play late SoH, where the reavers became pretty common and were fielded instead of tacticals pretty often.

But preffered tactics are not the only tactics a legion uses.. weather, terrain, symbolical character of the attack.. tactics are heavily influenced by that. So play whatever you want in terms of beeint effective..
