Help a Guy Convince a Group to Play 30k?

Hey guys, I have a really good gaming group which I play Warmachine/Hordes with almost every week. Recently I have been favoring 30k instead of  Warmachine and I am having trouble finding a group to really play with, so I was considering trying to convince some of them to play 30k. Most/all of these guys have played 40k in the past but once the balance/pricing (was it ever balanced?) went out the window they jumped ship in favor of the arguably more balanced Privateer press games. Most of them are 40k phobic now and have sworn off the game entirely. However, some are still open minded and aren't completely against the idea of giving 40k a second chance.

So this brings me to my question, how do you guys explain why/how 30k is different from 40k? How would you guys plead its case over 40k in terms of balance and appeal?

Thanks in advance guys, and to clarify I don't think I am going to convince them all but even if I could get 2 or 3 of the more open minded ones, I would be happy.

Thing is, how disposable are your friends' incomes? If you are going to attempt to get them into 30k, you'll have to consider if any of them want to make the outlay. Forgeworld stuff ain't cheap - not that it's much more expensive than GW anyway these days...

Let them read through the Rule Books and see if it grabs their fancy?

I was planning on doing this after I got their attention, and I agree this is the best way but I want to try and get some intrigue/attention before showing the rules if that makes any sense? Make them want to read the rules instead of just showing them. You're right and I am probably just making this harder on myself. biggrin.png

Tell them theres a giant box set with rules coming out in like 3 weeks!

Fair point, I guess I should have waited until then before posting this topic. happy.png

Tell them the rule sets are almost like 2nd and 3rd ed esque as to the craziness 40k has become.

No ridiculously overpowered formations and units (mostly)

Everything just about evens out, certainly when looking at the gw counterpart anyway.

Plus what's not to love? Space marines killing each other in a massive civil war as the imperium they build crashes down around them? Yes please!

I'm not sure what the rule sets from this box set will be like, they are gw don't forget. But use the models to build the bulk of the troops, and other things from fw to flavour ☺️

Buy some models as a present for the one who is the best combination of close enough to you that it's not awkward and susceptible enough that it's not a waste. Nobody looks gift models in the, er… mouth? Then make sure to set up a super fun Zone Mortalis game using those models.

Give them a copy of the first four books of the HH novels, if they read the first book and continue, chances are high that this may sway them a little to try it out.  If not, you can assist this with suggesting you allow them to create armies using their 40k figures if they have them, if they end up liking the rules from that, well who knows!

Thanks everyone, I am definitely going to show them the death ray club, but unfortunately I timed this poorly and everyone just got hyped for that new fandangled guildball game. I brought it up with one guy and he seemed interested but only after playing guildball for a while. Soooo, looks like I am going to be shelving my army for another year, biding my time until the right moment to strike. Meh, maybe I can get everything painted before then.
