Where do you think the Lion will rank table top wise?

Haven't we already covered this in detail in this thread from 2014? Granted, we've received rules  for a few more primarchs since then, but I don't think our expectations for the Lion--or the justifications for those expectations--have changed.

Unless I've missed something and got it wrong no one has mentioned the lion helm! Will it have similar rules to 40k do you think?

Probably. Makes sense.

I'm actually more interested in the design. MKVII doesn't really fit with the Heresy for me.

Choking out someone is a form of domination, showing that the life of someone is literally in your hands. Although Cudze might have wanted the Lion dead, he would have appreciated the dramatic and choking the lion despite its inefficiency (Guilliman able to survive in the void for 10 minutes (hours?)), says more about things.

Right...I mean OK...I guess Curze had a sadistic Bond villain moment

His lightning claws aren't over his fingers, he still has his hands free for all his choking needs.

The question is...why wouldn't he extend them to just kill the Lion then and there? I guess sadism

Well I meant the euphemism for curb stomp, but sure that works too. laugh.png

Lol unfortunately, Chicago - known as Chi-raq is not above really horrible things like that as evidence of this past week.

Anywho, has Simon Egan mentioned anything about sculpting the Lion?

Though I'm a wolf at heart, the Lion should rank just below Horus on average: great warrior (not particularly duellist for me), great tactician... but prone to incredible fits of rage: possibly he may get a rule to go on a small rampage each time he loses a unit or a hp ?

Also, I seem to remember him having his own personal arsenal, as he likes using different kinds of weapons for different enemies (pretty much the logical way to go), so I would actually give him several weapon options, rather than stances. He could also have several different weapons on him at each battle: one for big guys, one for puny guys...

Bouts of rage is a relatively new character element for the Lion, inspired by Gav's amateur, fumbling attempt to make him appear to have emotions. Jonson used to be characterised by being slow to anger but slow to forgive, in contrast to Russ who was quick to anger but also quick to laugh/forgive. This was in some of the original material on 'The Lion and Wolf' and in my opinion is much more fitting with the archetype of the character. I don't think it should be brought up at all, let alone represented in the rules.

As for having a significant personal arsenal, yes the Lion did have one... but so did all the other primarchs. It is in no way a defining characteristic of the character, especially when we remember he's one of the few primarchs with a famous weapon: the Lion Sword. It's fitting for both his knightly theme as well as the 40k lore, i.e. Cypher carrying the broken sword of the Lion to the Emperor for forgiveness (or whatever his true purpose is).

He actually just wants to ask the Emps to start up an In-and-Out Burger joint on the Rock :D

But wouldn't that be cool if the Emperor could reforge the sword and get off his butt to lead the Dark Angels like he did the 1st legion of old? That would be super symbolic and pretty awesome. I mean, it'll never happen, but hey, I can hope.

Well, if Gav Thorpe has his way, the Lion's special rules will be to cry and make babies, and it will be finally revealed that "he" is the one and only female Primarch. All the gruffness is just Liona being a tsundere.

I will be very disappointed if Thorpe's characterization of the Lion has any effect on how he is portrayed in the FW material (especially that moment). Older studio material, A D-B and Abnett all the way!

No Scanlon or Lee either!

I actually thought that novella (apart from that bit!) was Gavs best.

You are talking about Nemiel right ? cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif Nearly as bad as Arutha

Thing is, I don't know all that much about the Lion, but it always seemed to me like he got miffed at Russ pretty fast ?

I agree about the Lion Sword, but I also hope Forge World doesn't fall into the trap of just making the Dark Angels Space Knights. If there are six wings, plus the bulk of troops, then the Lion should represent at least several possibilities. I also think that it would make him unique compared to the other Primarchs and Special Characters (like Corswain) to have options like this (though of course others also have small options, like Perty's Forgebreaker): perhaps an option for shooty weapons, linked with the Lion Sword ?
