Double choom contemptor play testing?

Hey everyone,

Super curious if anyone has tried the double choom contemptor dread out. If so what have your results been. I'd love to hear feedback. I'm tempted to add one to my army but am on the fence about it due to the leviathan and the posaibility of fast attack dreads.

I have not playtested it. But 8 S6 AP5 Shots are okay. It isn't useless in melee, but AP- is pretty pointless, S7 or no. If you play Orks, IG, Nids, or similar it isn't too bad. Hit and wound on 2's ignoring saves and generating a second round of wounds on a 2, meaning that you can kill 11 in a turn.

Against MEQ, consider reducing that to 4 MEQ's at best. Do you really want to spend 200ish points on killing 4 karines a turn?

Double kheres is 8 shots straight up. One point of AP better is good for getting squishy humans.

Tl-ac (I'm assuming autocannon) can do more to light vehicles but less shots. In a supporting role Tl-ac can pop the rhinos for the little brothers to get at the gooey insides.

Depends what you are fighting most. Kheres are better vs MEQ's and TEQ's but shorter ranged and not Twin Linked, but you have a 3+ save or better, and against Terms, the 5++ or better triggers.

Autocannons aren't really of use due to a lack of AV12 in 30k. Chimera, and Wave Serpents just don't exist, and there are cheaper, better Autocannons if you need; Deredeo and Sicaran, while Rapier Quad Mortars are basically similar but more flexible if not as long a range.

Thing is, Dreads aren't one of the reasons you play legion, at least competitively. They are expensive, and for damage per shot, theybare very hard going, especially not Mortis, who at least have the opportunity to engage flyers with reasonable effectiveness.

For shooting, a legion dread is 50pts cheaper than a Contemptor, but as a result of the 5++, it basically has an extra HP at one higher Armour. Now; the trick with the extra armour is that the lack of AV12 is that the AV13 upgrade isn't the resilience it used to be among legion v legion combat. Against Legion armies, I can often find extra use for the extra 100pts in the list that I get from taking pair of legion as opposed to contemptors.

The ability of the two in shooting are equal otherwise. If you need some shooters you would do better as Legion, IMHO. In regards to use competitive, I struggle with anything that is not Dual Grav Legion units. Chainfist and Dreadnought melee weapons.

Now, they are okay units. Very okay, but not autotake.

You cannot argue with Rule of Cool though. You will certainly not find them underperforming or useless, there are always 'better in slot' units and of course army synergy applies here.

I totally understand your assessment. I love the dreads for what they are and understand there are more useful for your points units. I personally like dreads a lot and like to incorporate them. Once the leviathan is out I'm snagging one. I have a kheres mortis at the present for fires support. I just love volkite and would love to incorporate one.

Can't beat rule of cool. If we all cared about power, and played Raven Guard Decap Strike armies, the meta would change once more, and maybe change outside of RG, probably to a Daemon Heavy Word Bearers, at a guess. Each individual meta is exactly that, and is shaped by many people.

I could possibly join in any meta round the world, and what is good for me could be very wrong; I run some meltas in my orbital assault alpha legion list, but that is due too many people locally dropping Armoured Ceramite and Land Raider due to the evolution of that rock paper scissors approach of Armoured Ceramite, Graviton Guns/Cannons, and Melta.

Long story short, take it. It isn't near useless, unlike say a Recon Squad, Tactical Squad... that is honeslty possibly it for useless units.
