Where Will Sanguinius Rank Among The Primarchs?

I imagine he'll share Horus's statline but with I7. Hell, possibly even WS9, this is goddamn Sanguinius we're talking about. Horus is the measure by which primarchs are judged, but Sanguinius is the measure by which Horus judges himself. I think after Magnus he'll be the hardest to do, because there's so much he has to live up to.

Maybe he could have a reverse of the Butcher's Nails - each Blood Angel unit within X range of him that gets wiped out gives him a buff.

He'll be the strongest one. No question.

He'll be more points than Horus being more manoeuvrable. His troops love him so will get major buffs. Spear and sword options would be nice, but I'm not sure how they differentiate them (maybe a sweep attack?).

He'll also have some sort of Divination or his own powers.

Once had a GW employee joke about "WS:D" for his stats.

He'll be able to take out anything bar "Chaotic Horus" who I can see being able to mind bullet warlords into the dust.

(a few beers down and I need to say he'll a lot it seems :P)

Why a spear, is he known for wielding a spear?

Not sure, every piece of artwork I've ever seen has him with a blade, including the one of him laid low at Horus' feet (the blade is snapped in two, laying to his left on the stairs)

Yeah I dont even remember him using the spear in Fear to Tread. Its just a relic and I think it'd be good to diversify the primarchs a bit more. Too many swords.

And it makes a little more sense as a CCW for a guy who flies. He can just hover around poking people at whim.

"Poke, you're dead! Poke, you're dead!"

Too many swords?? What is this nonsense! Can never have too many swords.

Actually, fun fact: out of all the Primarchs that have rules right now (13) only three have swords. Fulgrim, Guilliman, and Dorn (actually a gigantic executioner chainblade). So.. I guess I really would argue we don't have enough swords right now! :P

Then again, 4 out of 5 of the unreleased primarchs will probably have swords. Russ, the Lion, Sanguinius, and the Khan...

That'll still be nearly half with swords when the're all released.

Maybe my issue has more to do with "x Primarch is the besterest swordsman ever". Fulgrim, Sanguinius, The Khan, The Lion.

Give them different weapons and you can break it up a bit.

WS8, if not 9 to match Angron, S6 with a +1 Strength Sword, T6, 6 Wounds, 5, maybe 6 attacks, 2+/4++, Jump Pack, Hit and Run, AP2 D3 Impact Hits, Furious Charge (for a S8 charge). Armourbane Pistol.

Perhaps allows Assault from Deep Strike, or super accurate Deep Strike for him and his unit. Possibly a +1 to Seize the Initiative, or reroll if the BA fail it. Perhaps some form of "okay, I'm going to start trying now", giving bonus stats. Perhaps reroll misses and failed wounds in a challenge when under half wounds.

Sire of the BA Rules; all BA gain Rage when he is killed. Jump Pack equipped units can Deep Strike from Reserve on the first turn. Treat him as a Nuncio Vox for that purpose.

And Horus was on God-juice.

EDIT: Which kind of reinforces the point of him being top-tier, seeing how he held out for awhile instead of just evaporating.

He also gave Angron the evil eye of death that he must have learned from a Polish mother.

It'll stop anyone dead in their tracks, even stone cold maniacs.

But then Russ says Horus is the only one who he is not sure he can beat. Implying he "knows" he can beat Sanguinius. Of coarse that's Russ own assessment, so...

The top tier, fluff wise, of the unreleased primarchs (Sanguinius, Russ, The Lion) are going to be tough to balance and i wouldn't be suprised if we see some major upsets around their rules.

To bring it back to topic and the question, thats where I think Sanguinius should be ranked. Top 5. With Horus, Russ, The Lion and Guilliman.

@Rakta: You mean in the duel that Russ had in order to try and fail to teach Angron a lesson.
Yea, thats a good measure of Russ's abilities *sarcasm*

Let's remember that when Horus kills Sanguinius, Sanguinius had only landed one blow on Horus and Horus chose to use his bare hands to kill SAnguinius.

Im not saying Sanguinius is crap, I think he should be in the top 5 (Horus, Angron, Sanguinius, Russ and the Lion) but him equaling Horus pre or post chaos is unlikely in my opinion.

WLK

Horus was by that point a god fuelled by the powers of chaos, and Sanguinius had been fighting for days without rest on Terra. Hardly a fair contest, and that's coming from a massive Horus fan who isn't fond of Sanguinius in the slightest.

I don't think he should be as good a Primarch v Primarch fighter as Horus is, but I'd expect him to be very close pre-Chaos. The Talon of Horus pretty much makes Horus the ultimate Primarch v Primarch brawler, as it should be - he is the most dangerous Primarch, see the introduction to Conquest. Post-Chaos, nobody comes close to Horus except the big E.

I think that top group should be pretty tight. Always seen Horus as the first amongst equals, not superior (probably natural for a DA player, right? ;) ).

Personally wouldn't have included Angron in the top 5. Unless you're talking just combat. Guillimans rounds out my top 5.
