It's funny how the only people that don't think the new Ultra fluff is a super huge improvement and a really flavourful way to make the smurfs less stale are old 40k smurf players that are like "what do you mean we aren't just Supa space marines that are the best at everything and have no grim dark at all"

and as far as the codex astartes goes well all this 30k stuff is supposed to be new and different so there would have been no fun if they just made the 30k ultra's codex 40k marines

In the end people will always have there likes and dislikes on the FW fluff but they have done a really good job of leaving enough open ended stuff to realize you're personal vision for you're legion I mean if we wanna complain the IF rules anf units aren't that stellar outside of zone mortalis but whatever I don't whine cause on the whole the FW has been amazaballs let's focus on the positive

I'm thinking of going heavy Terminators for an army themed around Guilliman's personal strike command.

Also; what the bolter shell is the deal with Tauro Nicodemous not being about! He's my favourite character so far, after he killed 2 Sons of Horus Honour Guard and made a Centurion pee himself into surrender.

Grumble grumble

I'm pretty sure Guilliman lets you take Termies as troops so that's pretty ideal for your theme :)

I do like the idea of a flood of Tacticals too. I think superior numbers is cool since the Ultramarines rules where they reroll failed wounds if a previous unit hit them that turn will make this rock.

Plus it's cheaper and gives a friend's Primarch a kill tally if needed lol

Welcome to the heresy Captain! (you don't know how long I have been waiting to say that), you haven't chosen a better time to play heresy than right now. However you already this as I presume your buying the new plastic heresy box (or 2).

Seeing as you play Ultramarines then you probalby won't want to go pride of the legion with veterans. As you may know Veterans are basically 40k tactical squads, but a million times better. Seeing as you want to flood the board with marines 2 plastic box sets help to build the core nicely.

You get 60 marines, which can be made into 3 20 man blobs

2 contemptors to be in drop pods or in a squad to march up the field.

10 terminators which can be thrown in a spartan or split up and be made into the legion specific ones.

And a host of characters, with the second boxs characters they can be made into other consuls for you. Since your thinking of ground fires, a master of signals is nice.

For the army you are going to definitely need some apothecaries to keep your men running, as a black templar player I can tell you how great it is to be rolling over 20 fnp rolls and succeeding. You'll also need some vehicles to support your infantry.

I'm willing to guess that your a veteran ultramarine player and have quite a few vehicles lying around. All of those predators, dreadnoughts, vindicators, and rhinos you have lying around can be used without using the forgeworld ones! All of it, even in squadrons, (though you don't get those fancy buffs like the codexs ones do). However if you want the real cool stuff you gotta give your money to the gods of forgeworld.

Again, welcome to the heresy!

Yeah I looked at my Rhinos and Predators and thought - ha I have a solid am out of vehicles already!

Though I must confess I was thinking of a new paint scheme so they might need adapting.

Many thanks for all your greetings and welcomes guys. Most appreciated feedback.

I have another couple questions:

1) What's the etiquette regarding 40K vehicles in 30K setting? I'm considering getting the "old school" style vehicles to make it a true Legion force, though appreciate that is inflating my costs.

2) Does the big red book have unit rules for thinks like Deredo (sp? I saw it mentioned and I don't even know how to spell it let alone what it is) Contemptors, Typhons (not the character but some sort of killy thing?) and other goodness?

1) the plastic kits are known as Mars Pattern, the cheaper but more easily produced variant of any STC (with a few exceptions like the Mars Pattern Warlord). So if you dont want to buy another set of 5+ rhinos ewpecially those that are in resin, you dont need to nor will the plastics look out of place...unless theyre 40k Blinged out.

2) things like the Deredeo, Xiphon Interecptor and LasVindicator have their rules in the FW downloads section but all three are also present in book 5 Tempest.

Only units that were released post book 3 are not in the Red books so:

-Deredeo

-Xiphon

-Updated LasVindicator (the one in the red book isnt the most current version)

-Contemptors being buffed to 3 base attacks

-Soon-to-be-release Leviathan Dread

-Stormbird (also in book 5)

-Damoclese Command Rhino (book 5)

-Relics (book 4)

And a few other things I might be forgetting.

I work from IA2 2nd edition, so all vehicles that I get are cross-compatible.

I very rarely gae, but I imagine FW vehicles in a 40K game will raise far more eyebrows than Mars pattern vehicles in a 30K game, so I would not worry about it. Just try to keep it as Wysiwyg as possible.

The Typhon is a beast!!

And what Slipstreams said :)

The 40k Rhinos and Predators are Mars Pattern variants that were definitely used during the Horus Heresy.

You certainly don't need to purchase any other Rhinos.

In terms of making additions to your force, a Deredeo is a welcome one. It is all the Anti Air you need, but also works equally well against ground targets. The Missile upgrade is mandatory, imo :-)

Just checked the FW website and I'm in love with so much of their models it's not fair! My girlfriend is gonna kill me...

Ha ha

Anyway, just checking up the Deredeo and it looks great. Rules say "experimental" but are folk generally okay with it being used then? It would solve my dilemma of anti-air cover whilst meeting my criteria for salving my obsession for Dreads.

Also, are there events and tournaments held for the game in the UK? I'm more interested in the former though the latter is cool as I never play like an Eldar anyway.

Oh oh oh, another question... I'm sure it's been done but what about 30K games vs 40K? In particular, my friend is a Daemon player so getting him into it is ideal.

I imagine we'll see Orks introduced with the Heresy book we've all seen rumoured. Imagine rules for Orks the size of that one who could choke the Emperor, lol

The Deredeo has the full rules published in book V Tempest, and yes - it's legit.

They are exactly the same as the free rules you get from the site.

I've played and watched Heresy armies pitted against 40k armies, and it works well.

Sometimes you'll get destroyed by a 40k army, and sometimes you'll destroy a 40k army... Which is pretty standard :-P

Which models have caught your eye? I don't find the Heresy too expensive once troops and transports are out of the way.

I loved the Sicarian tank, and of course the Ultramarines infantry curse their beautiful hides.

Tempted by the Whirlwind thingy too, as it looked cool. The S8 AP3 blasts one.

Man it's great fun to feel like a noob again.

This thread is an excellent resource of information for anyone looking to join the HH team, regardless of which legion they choose.

The Deredeo rules are 100% acceptable, I believe it only says experimental because they've yet to be published into one of the IA or HH books.

Also, one of the books previously released had rules for 30k vs. 40k games although I cannot tell you which, though I believe it's book 1.

Welcome to the Age of Darkness.

Ah it's okay as my mate has a massive Daemon army and he's a great laugh to play against - I just need to get him on board ;)

Perhaps we should have a guide to starting out for us uninitiated.

As for the Sicarian... how can I not get one now I hear the great Primarch was involved? Maybe 2.

And a Deredeo. Just for funsies.

The Heresy train has no brakes.
