Ishagu
So, the HH buzz is pretty loud right now - and rightfully so. Over the last few months I've slows been adding models to my army, and my 2k list is almost completed with further possibility to expand. So, here's the list I finally settled on: HQ: -Legion Centurion, Power Fist Troops: -10 Man Tactical Squad, Sgt with Combi Plasma, Rhino -10 Man Tactical Squad, Sgt with Combi Plasma, Rhino -5 Invictarus Suzerains, Landraider Phobos Elites: -Rapier Quad Mortar -Rapier Quad Mortar Heavy Support: -Deredeo Dreadnough, Anvilus Autocannon, Aiolos Milssile Launcher, Heavy Bolter -Legion Sicaran, Las Cannon Sponsons -Legion Sicaran, Las Cannon Sponsons Lord of War: -Roboute Guilliman The idea behind the list is to remove enemy armour, and then chip away at infantry. The two Rapiers and the various vehicles are boosted by either Sunder or Tank Hunters, which would allow me to remove most vehicles in a turn if I focus fire. Once an infantry target has been hit by an Ultramarine unit it also gets to re-roll 1s to wound. Seeing as practically all weapons in the list aside from Bolters wound most infantry on a 2+ this is a pretty good way not to waste dice. Primarch and Infantry are for mopping up... Here's my latest haul from the weekend: I'll eventually be expanding the list to 2.5k by replacing the basic Centurion for a Chaplain, adding a Contemptor in Drop Pod, and also some of the Locutarus Stom Marines armed with hand flmers... norngahl
1. All eggs in one basket, and it's just a phobos. Upgrade to a spartan or I promise you will be walking onwards from turn 1. 2. Sicarans are for light vehicles, leftovers or jinkers (speeder, pie plate survivors, dreadclaws, light AA) and not tank hunters. For 180 points you get 3 quadmortars which will do way better in antitank. 3. When you go for guilliman (so cc), than go for it. A lone phobos running into enemy lines? Ähm nope. Just a few thoughts. It's pretty much impossible to make a primarch work at 2k. Ishagu
The Sicarans have Tank Hunter due to the Primarch. That's a lot of TL, rending, tank hunting shots - not to mention the Las Cannons. Add the Deredeo and the Quad Mortars and I'm not sure many vehicles would survive if left out in the open. I would minimise risk to the Landraider with careful deployment, ideally I would be going first and if so there's almost no chance I would be seized on. You're right, I'm spending a lot of points on one unit but I've been very careful and efficient with the rest of the force. I do agree a LR can be stopped - I'm considering dropping a power fist and adding Armoured Ceramite. When I expand the force I'll add the upgrades. A Spartan is something I might look into, but I'd want Terminators to go inside it. I want the force to be quintessentially a Heresy army, so the inclusion of a Primarch is mandatory. I found it hard to include Horus in my SoH army, but at least he didn't require an expensive transport due to risk free deepstriking... norngahl
Both Sicarans have tank hunter? Okay, in this case, forget what I said. But think about dropping the deredeo, and upgrade to a flate shield armored ceramite spartan instead, spend the rest of the points on whatever you want. With tank hunter 2 sicarans with 12 tl s7 rending tank hunter shots plus lascannons should be enough, you will hardly face more than 1 truly threathening flyer at this point level (fire raptor, Lightning, xiphon), if you face a caestus you won't bring it down fast enough with your deredeo anyway. Leaves you around 100 points to spend. Making your killer squad work is more important than killing a flyer in 1 round rather than 2 or maybe 3. The only thing you want to kill immediatly is a lightning with kraken penetrator missiles which kann kill your spartan, but as your deredeo has just 90 degree of sight, interceptor can be easily avoided. So you won't stop it dropping it's missiles. After that, it's not threathening any longer. And a fire raptor does nit threat your spartan, nor truly your sicarans in the early rounds.. your plan is- crack up transports, munch through the content, kill tanks which can kill yours. Focus on that tactic IMO :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315573-2000-point-ultramarines-will-share-pics-soon/#findComment-4214722 Share on other sites
Dom_
I would agree with the Spartan over the land raider and deredeo. If you're going to have an "all eggs in one basket" style list, make it a terrifying basket!!! You can always play a couple of games with the land raider as a counts as Spartan to see which you prefer. Caillum
Go for 3 Sicarans! Crazy, but it suits the focus of Ultramarines and they can do a number on fliers with all that twin-linked, re-roll Jink and Tank Hunters! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315573-2000-point-ultramarines-will-share-pics-soon/#findComment-4214764 Share on other sites
Fangbanger
I think a primarch at 2000 is too much, just doesn't leave you enough padding in the rest of the force. Really 3000 is primarch territory imo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315573-2000-point-ultramarines-will-share-pics-soon/#findComment-4216317 Share on other sites
Ishagu
At anything above 2k I'd trade a Primarch for super heavy vehicles... I literally think 2k is the points level where you won't come across D shooting. Slips
Ah but 30k Vs 30k, with a Single LoW slot (unless using specific FoCs) the tradeoff becomes, at 3k+, Will my opponent field a Primarch or D Slinging LoW? Most of us will likely field a Primarch because....its a Primarch vs a Warhound Titan with Twin Turbo-Lasers. The Falchion is also pretty rarely seen. Titans are more likely to be seen in true Apoc Games (like the one I have scheduled for December).
