Mark IV and all things HH

I do plan on getting this set. I think id like to be able to play the new game as well as use the models to start a heresy era ba army. I think it would be a great way to get light weights interested in the hobby without overwelming them with 40k/30k.

So I think ill paint half my dudes as Blood angels and the other half as iron warriors (super quick easy to do paint scheme)

Very similar to my interests... Although as easy as it is, IW shouldn't be in mk4 :(

Hmmm you may be right... I dont think ive ever seen them wearing mark IV. I dont see why they wouldnt have had any though not that im full bottle on Iron warrior fluff???

Maybe I will just do 2 loyalist chapters instead. Ive always like Imperial fists! I will rhink more on this!!

Saying IW dont have Mk4 is like saying BA dont have Mk4.

For reference, Horus diverted shipments of newer Mk4 to the traitor legions, so the traitors (IW included) started with more sets of Mk4 than all others, and probably had more than the BA.

Anyone else remember this kit? It was the first pack of marines I bought way way way back in the day. 30 marines for a tenner - Modern day GW would lose their minds at the thought of that!

That was the first kit I bought too smile.png

I covered them in 'Blood Angels Orange', still on the sprue, no primer biggrin.png

For BA you were supposed to mix Blood Angels Orange with Terracotta apparently, but I didn't know at the time...

Plastic Terminators from Space Hulk first edition... Loving that. Not sure about the homemade chain fists though - they look like the optional bolter attachments from the the rouge trader box set stuck on the side - Is that right?

Loving the retro though.

This thread has got me getting all nostalgic for the Old Skool.

I hunk I may have to trawl eBay and see if there are some of he old space marine figures that can be bought and painted to make an addition to my little force.

Squad load out was a missile launcher, an assault cannon, a plasma gun, a power fist and power sword, and a force axe with bolt pistol if I'm correct?

Not a playable unit on 40K but a nice nod to days of yore...

I have a set of metal RT era marines, with the old metal beer keg jump packs that are meant to get done up as a BA veteran squad of some kind. I've had them in my bitz box for... better than a decade since I worked at GW and could get bitz by weight.

Someone needs to get a BA vow going so I have an excuse to finally paint them.

With the rate I paint, and the other things on my plate I'd never get them done. I know my limitations.

Plus this thread just made remember that I had the models at all. tongue.png

Well, there's always the ETL and RTS (all being well my end) next year :)

Brothers, Can we agree to considering that many, if not all the Blood Angels Chapters still possess the knowledge to create new suits of Mark IV ?

Arkangilos : I don't remember to have read anywere that the Legion paint scheme were closed to minor color difference between Legion Chapters. Furthermore, i think that the current Blood Angels/Angels Encarmine/Angels Vermillon for exemple, don't have real difference from the original color scheme.

(For exemple, if i paint 40k Blood Angels using as basic red the Mephiston Red, how far from the 30k the paint scheme will be different ? yes, of course the marking squad will be slightly different, but we can also imagine that the original marking have stay unchanged on the old suits of Mark IV, after all, the Machine Spirit of the armour could take wrongly such a change...). =)

Well that all depends on how old-school you want to get. I've seen a lot of the modern HH imagery using Meph Red but if you look at the original artwork or the Space Marines Painting Guide from the Rogue Trader era then the BA colour scheme was terracotta highlighted with Blood Angel Orange.

I'm severely tempted to paint mine in the traditional scheme just for nostalgia's sake....

It's not just the minor hue differences. Say for example you wanted to do a Flesh Tearer (for official) or my own Sanguinary Crusaders (for Unofficial). The reds are a bit more noticeably different, and the shoulders (and chest, for Flesh Tearers) is completely different.

FW has opened it up a little, but it's still bound to raise some eyebrows.
