Excellent heavy flamer squads, I was unsure of how to model mine but I'm definitely going with that.

Thanks, it just felt right. I liked the FW Krieg heavy flamer team but it's cost prohibitive and not chaotic enough so I came up with these. They have a pistol/CCW so the "guard" with that loadout made sense.

Yeah the Krieg one is mad money, plus I'm looking at a more high-tech/elite approach.

Put some work into the Stormhammer, but it needs more. Been busy studying so I could only divert myself to a small project.

I've had the idea in my head to play different versions of this Militia & Cults army. One is the subversive Alpha Legion leading a chaos military cult.

The other is a few Word Bearers characters who have gone over the edge and fully embraced chaos, leading a Khornate cult and a Khorne daemons allied detachment. Obsessed with knowledge/mastery of daemons and ultimately coalescing with them, they lead hordes of mortal believers to butcher their way to let loose their bloodthirsty friends from the warp. I had to build a 30k army and still play Khorne Daemonkin, apparently.

Here's a "paragon blade" praetor I've been messing around with. I want to fill in a lot of the gaps left in his helm and bulk it out a bit so it looks balanced. Photos from my phone didn't turn out great, but you can see the general idea.

I also plan to build a chaplain/dark apostle after I'm done with this guy.

Nothing exciting, just better pictures of the above:

You can see there's a lot of sculpting to be done around the crown of his head to connect the helmet to the skull and make them look semi-believably merged.

I'm inspired by this illustration to paint the "paragon blade" as a sort of ghostly weapon. Not sure if I just want to stick to blue tones, as I don't think I can pull off the rainbow effect with my skills at this point. I'll practice on some hellblades, or something.

Wow amazing VL !!! <3

What bit is that Paragon blade ?

I absolutely love what you have done! I must find that sword for my death guard.

Thanks! It's a sword from the Varanguard AoS kit:

I bought it from Bits & Kits, might be had on eBay or other places as well:

I love that Praetor, it is a fantastic use of bits and the overall effect is incredibly brutal and menacing.

I'm incredibly jealous of that Stormhammer too, I'm thinking of getting some Solar Auxilia just for that beast! Out of interest, what is the field of fire like on the second and third sponson guns on each side, can they all point reasonably directly forwards or does the housing limit their positioning?

The housing does limit their real-life angles, but based on the BRB illustration of a sponson's arc of fire, I see no reason that they couldn't all fire forward so long as the target isn't directly in the middle of their front arc and obscured by the hull.

It's not the in-game rules I'm thinking about, it's the rule-of-cool in terms of looks - trying to decide between going for the full-Lascannon set-up or a front Lascannon and then the next two different weapons (possibly Multi-Lasers). Mind you, with all the other projects I've got planned, the SA may be waiting a long time (as building 2 Legion forces, even starting from B@C and BoP, isn't going to be cheap)!

I'll be keeping an eye on this log, as I've not seen many Traitor Militia forces out there (and fewer Stormhammers, loyalist or otherwise!) and you do seem to have a knack for converting and kit-bashing that could make this an amazing project indeed.

Ah, gotcha. I thought about magnetizing the sponson guns, but honestly full lascannons sounded coolest of all to me. Rearward flamers could be pretty cool, though, to ward off anyone thinking of charging.

I appreciate the interest. I've definitely added some flair to it, and one of these days I'll take some update pics.

Got a little bit of sculpting done last night. Attempted to add some organic-looking... "warpblood" vessels growing around the connections between the skull and the helm. I think they look way better from afar than super zoomed in, but I'm happy with the result:

The zoomed-in detail looks pretty good, especially in that final picture and in the rear shot.

Are you aiming for more of a distorted Chaplain look with the skull as part of his warped armour, or is the skull going to be a blessing that has mutated his own head? I ask because it reminds me of the Gaunt's Ghosts character Inquisitor Heldane, who had surgery to extend his skull into an almost equine shape to terrify his enemies.

Making slow work toward building the army. Painting all the cultists color by color; almost done airbrushing, and I'll move on to the brush next.

Built this Fire Support Squad with autocannons:
