GodEmperorOfMankind
Hi all I picked up Narik Dreygur at Warhammer World the other week, and I'm wondering what the best way to run him is? Now I play the IV legion, so I could run him as is, but I wondered if giving him a different loadout would make him more effective? Raktra
Boarding shield, combi-flamer, then whatever you like. Combi-flamer so the bolter can add the PE bonus at 24", the flamer part for overwatch, the shield for defensive grenades. Personally I like a void shield harness to make the unit even more obnoxious. Hesh Kadesh
Maybe a Praevian with a Boarding Shield in place of a Refractor and a Bolter to replace the MC Pistol makes them more defensive. Defensive Grenades and Preferred Enemy chance at up to 24". Thunder Hammer to trigger Concussed on enemy MC's. Dreygur is more offensively oriented. MC pistol has the same chance as a bolter to trigger PE, but is limited to 12" range, yet doesn't prevent Charges. Without Fleet, IV legion don't get the benefit out of Vorax that would be nice, but Scout and Poisoned Rotor Cannons can hunt MC's; equipped with Paired Shredding AP2 Weapons, they make a mess of anything that isn't a Siege Thanatar or someone running lots of Castellax as some form of overcompensation for something Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315795-praevian-consul-how-to-run-him/#findComment-4219635 Share on other sites
GodEmperorOfMankind
Would the model be best served as a different consul entirely then? I'm happy to make him something else. I've currently got a praetor in power armour with a paragon blade, and a praetor in cataphractii armour, so what else would the iron 4th need? I also want to run some zm games Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315795-praevian-consul-how-to-run-him/#findComment-4219746 Share on other sites

MindOfMetal
I'd agree with Raktra-boarding shield is a really good option for a Praevian. I tend to run my Iron Hands Praevians with them and cyber familiars too. A weapon with as long a range as possible is need to, doesn't even really matter if it wounds just as long as it hits. Gorgoff
I gave mine a Refractorfield, a Bolter, Melter Bombs and two Castellax with Darkfire Lances and Enhanced Targeter. Works pretty damn well. Although a Combiflamer is a neat idea. GodEmperorOfMankind
Cheers guys I think I'm going to model Narik with a boarding shield and run him as a different consul, what consul would be best for ZM game, vigilator? As for having a Praevian Consul, I'll run one with a refractor field and combi flamer, stick him with some castellax Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/315795-praevian-consul-how-to-run-him/#findComment-4220808 Share on other sites
Hesh Kadesh
Why? He is okay as a Praevian, with 3 wounds. His wargear could be better, but a Power Fist, Refractor and MC Bolt pistol is very capable as a Praevian. GodEmperorOfMankind
Because I like the model and want to run him often, and that won't happen as a Praevian. I want him in the thick of it, and I plan on running breachers as a regular thing. Hesh Kadesh
Still not seeing the problem with running him as a Praevian. Giving him a boarding shield and sticking him with Breachers isn't effective. He doesn't have a Crozius, so no Power Weapon, nor does he have a Servo Arm, Narthecium, Force Weapon, he can't be a Vigilator or Moritat because Power Fist. He doesn't have a banner, so no upcoming Heraldor. That leaves siege breacher, which gives him Tank Hunter Bolt Pistol and Tank Hunter Power Fist, he gives his ubir Tank Hunting heavy weapons, but the only heavy they have is Graviton which pretty much autoglances anyway, is limited to 18" and can't forward deploy (as wellas possibly arguable non beneficial of tank hunters). That leaves you with Delegatus whose only benefit is taking Chosen duty for Pride of the Legion; but Iron Warriors is one of the few lists where Pride of Legion actually is a decent option because rocket vomit and you have a Praetor already. Praevian is something that he is well equipped for, and being in the thick of it. Sure he isn't perfect, but then again, Sevatar doesn't have AP2, Abaddon can be distinctly average, and Raven Guard lack a particularly effective CC character outside of Corax. 4 Power fist attacks on the charge are pretty sweet, especially when supported by 3 or 4 MC's with Preferred Enemy. On the offense he is perfectly equal to any Praevian you can build (well, unless you miss with a BS5 MC'd pistol). With a combi flamer boarding shield, On the defense, you get a 1/battle auto PE and force the enemy to lose their charge bonus or rampage. Other than that? They are the same. Narik just gets +1 wound and unique access to MC Bolt Pistol for a centurion over a similarly equipped (theoretical) Praevian, for a single melta bomb more. If you want to run the model the most times, run him as a PFist sergeant.
