Burn Out

I set very strict rules and milestones for myself.

- I don't play with unfinished models. If I want to use them, I have to finish them.

- I have two pizza boxes that I used as priming platforms. When they're full, I can't assemble or prime any more.

- I only have so much space for unassembled boxes.

- I keep detailed logs and schedules to track my progress. Ticking something over from "priming" to "painting" feels good.

- I'm surprisingly responsible, financially. It's getting easier to pass on eBay auctions or preorders when the queue is full.

It's taken a lot of work, personally. I had a bad habit of losing focus, leaving trails of unfinished projects. Now I'm much more faithful.

When I get tired of working on one game I switch to a different one from a different setting. It really helps if after painting colours suited for military in game A I switch to B where I can use other colours like blues, reds, yellows.

Also as was said before upcoming games help.

One other thing I do, which I forgot to mention, is anytime I'm painting something for a different game (I play some board games) I try to use a style that's very different from my usual army. I used a really sloppy wash/drybrush method for Zombicide, Zenithal highlighting with an airbrush for Space Hulk, etc. Playing with other techniques is fun and keeps things fresh.
