Sons of Horus Battle Company

Full Stride

Recommended Posts

I’ve been a lurker at the forums for far too long, so I decided to start a blog covering the progress of my project for the coming months. I also hope you guys will be giving C&C which will keep me motivated!

I’ll be building a Sons of Horus battle company, which will mostly be used in 40k games, but possibly later in HH games as well. The first deadline is a demi company in February, then the complete company and a small addition in may. Lots of work to do and miniatures to buy! Later on I’ll post my list for you guys to comment on.

As I’m still waiting for the Betrayal at Calth box for my infantry, I decided to do some work on the upgrades for all those free razorbacks (yes I know not really fluffy in heresy games).

The army will be themed around the Davin’s moon disaster, leading to Horus’ corruption. The basing of the army will be done with lots of tufts, reeds and water effects, combined with nurglesque imperial army troopers in combat with the SoH. I’ve done some work on the first bases, which I’ll show as soon as I can take pictures.

For now:

I’m working on my own easily recastable heresy rhino kit. The idea is to save both money and time scratch building all those doors and hatches. I would have liked to have other exhausts as well, but I think it will be too complicated and I want to keep it simple, cheap and quick. I’ll be making a mold of this set soon and then another copy of the side hatch, so I’ll be able to cast enough bits for one rhino at a time.

I know it’s a lot of talk for three pictures, but more will follow asap!

so first the master for the rhino kit

I've been working on two jetbikes, which will count as attack bikes. It's a few hours work already and I hope to make some more progress tonight. It still needs much more detailing, but the basic outline is there.

What do you guys think?

Made some progress tonight. Still a few things to do though. Main problem is how to integrate the original bike exhausts into the jetbike design. I've filled the holes to make it look more like tubes rather than exhausts, but I think I'll add something to the end as well. I'm not particularly fond of wings on jetbikes, but maybe that will do the trick.

Now waiting for the GS to dry and then some sanding..

Ideas are welcome!

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been working on many things in the past two weeks, almost 20 tacticals are finished, some of which still need some GS work. I'll post

pictures of them when finished, same for the jetbikes. Hopefully tomorrow or the day after.

Now some pictures of my dread. I got inspiration for the gun and the legs from the FW Leviathan dreadnought. Still need to build the

second arm, probably a powerfist with a casualty in it's claws. Sadly I threw away the plastic fist, so I'll have to build a new one...
