Knight Errants, how to model them?

So I'm guessing that everyone who's read anything to do with the HH and listened to some of the audio books will know of the Knight Errant, an idea I'm quite fond of. Question is, how would you guys do them? I know they get described as having grey plain armour but anything else such as what types/ any idea to spot what Legion they come from?

I think it all comes down to what weapons you give them and how you paint their faces. A guy with a rebreather, pale skin, and a flamer weapon in MKIII armor probably doesn't hail from the Space Wolves, if you catch my drift.

For instance, I've had an idea of modeling a Knight-Errant for the Emperor's Children. He would have long hair, a highly ornamented (but still grey) suit of armor, and a finely-wrought sword. That would convey his origins and his color scheme would convey his loyalty.

Well I know that all of my guys will have helmets on (it's just silly for me having super soldiers who could just get a sniper round to the head because he decided not to wear his helmet) it's just that I always imagined them being a bit more uniform with each other instead of simply painting over their armour. Besides we're told their left their legions behind either through a series of events or choice so I don't wanna go "As this guy uses a sniper so must be Alpha Legion." That and I don't wanna fork out a lot of money for that one helmet unique to SoH
Well in deathfire numeon mentions that narek/Hecht is wearing unadorned grey armour of a unknown but advanced looking mk of armour so being that its set after the IF recover the first production mk6 suits from mars. So I'd say they have mk6 or possibly prototype mk7

Yeah, that seems likely. It is mentioned on Garros' wiki page that on becoming a Knight Errant, anything to do with the Death Guard was taken off his armour and that he was given Mk 6 armour. So the idea I'm thinking of going it with a mixture of Mk4 and Mk6 plain armour with the Sigillites' symbol on their shoulder in green and have a few aquilas' on a few of the models too. Their armour would obviously be grey as well.

In the Book Vengeful Spirit it also mentions that each member of the scouting party had one item kept over from their parent legion. Some were weapons but others were things like coins/boxes, servo arms, etc. Even if you kept the armour pattern fairly similar on all the models I would imagine it would be easy to give them character based on what totems they carried.

Yeah, little touches on the models will suggest what Legion they're from. Rubio has a force gladius, suiting the Ultramarines well, and they're meant to be doing a model of him.

And yes, in the audio they mention Mark VI armour, including describing the pointed helms at one point. :)

Hmmm ... I have been building up a stash of mk6 bits for possible RG fun but now I have another possible direction. thumbsup.gif

please wait for Forgeworlds official rules before start to build something ^,^

The problem with that is that some people will have to wait years before building something XD

Knights errant, in not up on 30k low but these sound a lot like black shields...

Blackshields is kind of a catch-all term for Space Marines with no Legion. They've left their Legions behind or maybe never even had one (!!) that they know of. Sometimes they've gone piratical, are genetic monstrosities that have been abandoned, etc.

Knights Errant are a small order of elite Legionaries gathered up by Malcador to go off on special missions.
