Did we get it wrong about Albia?

Thank you, Jeebus, somebody said it. While I know there's a lot of gra(e)y area in the fluff, there really is no need to read the lines between the lines underneath the lines between the other lines located between some other lines.

British dudes made it. The place they reference a lot that has a name similar to an old timey name of the UK...it's prolly the UK. And even if it's not, they'll probably never clarify it anyway (see intentional gray area mentioned earlier). And that's perfectly ok, as it gives us room to insert our own fluff.

*shaves face with Occum's Razor*

Sorry. (no sarcasm intended)

I was involved with the big secret gathering/uncovering shenanigans 343 was doing on the sideline for Halo 4, where every step had layers-upon-layers of detail to sift through before you even saw a piece of the puzzle. I now have a tendency to expect more to things than are immediately obviously. I'll see something that someone has created and say "there has to be more to this", reading too far into things is just part of my nature now.

Why do people try to read into it too much?

Well, for some of us, it's fun. I personally like this "Albia is Alaska/British Colombia" theory a lot even if there's probably no authorial intent behind it. This thread was a great read, imho.

You know, cockney isn't isn't the only accent here, brother.

And no Californians sound like stoned Keanu Reeves in bright '90s clothing, but that doesn't stop it being from being parodied freaking everywhere. You can all live with your LOADS O' MOANEH accent. :p

That new possibility of Hy Brasil is exactly what Humanity loves to do, and what I was referencing in an earlier post. When the Atlantic Ocean boiled away, when Humanity later began building a population center out in its evaporated depths, of course they'd take that mythical name for themselves.

Sorry. (no sarcasm intended)

Nothing wrong with that what-so-ever mate.

Games workshop "history" is often a little tongue in cheek to be fair and while the Black Library writers do work hard on the details along with Forge World there are going to be vague and brief references that they may only have a vague idea of what they are implying. To me they seem like cool little off hand comments or gestures and I think that this has become something associated with the Heresy as a whole now.

Little fan boy moments of excitement for the reader which as really fun. Sometimes you can say more by revealing less.

That's not strictly cockney.

To be fair, I can see the intimidation factor of Cockney Death Guard...

Mortarion advanced on the hapless young Imperial, grabbing his throat and lifting him off the floor. He spoke, his foul breath stifling, a pale rage in his eyes;

"ARE YOU MUGGIN' ME OFF?!"

"b-b-beg pardon, sir?!" Stammered the luckless Imperial, sweat rolling down his cheek.

"NAH, LET'S AVE IT RIGHT. YOU WERE TRYIN TO MAKE ME LOOK THE :cuss IN FRONT OF ALL MY PALS! I SHOULD OPEN YOU UP, SUNSHINE!"

:D

Uh, this is apparently Hy Brasil.

The mythical Hy Brasil, sure, but isn't the 30k version confirmed as being on the south American continent? In this case the confirmed geographical location doesn't leave much room for speculation, the point is fixed and even my enthusiasm for wild theories can't alter that.

Aside from an unsourced mention of inspiration, I don't think it's truly been confirmed. Which has huge implications for the Unifications Wars, fluffwise.

Edit - Having spent a little longer than a couple of seconds digging around, Sao Paol may have been mentioned - which would imply Brazil has had a rebranding. ;)

Blood Game gives us this: "Hy Brasil, the most powerful of all the Sud Merican cantons"
