Two Quick Questions: Rhino Weapons and Recon Teams

First - rhino weapons.

What's the best way to kit them out? Keep them cheap with a twin-linked bolter or even nothing at all? Go with a heavy bolter for range, or a heavy flamer to help the dudes inside clear enemy infantry off objectives? Does playing Salamanders change the calculation (Strength 6 heavy flamer rather than Strength 5)?

Second - recon teams

Are they any good? Is the idea that occurred to me - using them to move a dedicated transport storm eagle out of Heavy Support and into Troops, which is good for armies using a Rite of War that limits your Heavy and/or Fast options - a valuable one? Also it would let me Outflank the storm eagle. Would you then kit the recon team for assault, with chainswords on the grunts and a power sword on the sergeant? Maybe even an inferno pistol as well?

Thanks. I'm still wrapping my head around this new branch of the game.

I personally don't like the recons. I play alphas and bought three squads of recons before i ever played because i like their bits. I keep one squad as recon marines with meltas to run around the back field and do damage, they've killed a vehicle in each game ive play. Other than that i don't like them. I actually turned them into support squads

I think the only upgrade worth putting on rhinos is dozer blades, sucks to have your squad stranded just because you tried to move through a forest. Besides that, better to keep rhinos cheap-they are metal boxes that will die fast, no point in putting upgrades on it when the rhino won't last long.

Never used recon squads, but I can't say they appeal to me much, they just don't have that many great options.

I like combi weapons on rhinos. 4 bolter shots and either 2 plasma or 1 melta gun shots aren't game changing, but can contribute. With first blood gone I find my rhinos less harassed than usual in the point levels I play (1500-1850).
