Submarine
I've read the little background there is on the Alpha Legion and really like the style and the imagery associated with this Legion. I want to build a Force to be used in 30k but which can be applicable to 40k as well... I am struggling slightly to visualise what an Alpha Legion force would be composed of. I know some people play them as a space marine chapter in 40k but I would probably use them as a CSM force. I am just not sure in either system if I have a handle as to what units they would use aside from terminators and contemptor because there are models for those. Thanks for any guidance. Hrolf the Cunning
Hi Submarine, I think you might find some food for thought in the pinned thread at the top of this subforum. Your uncertainty is a fairly common dilemma when first starting out, trying to straddle 30 and 40k. I think starting with some bolter tactical squads is a good place as you can sort out your aesthetic considerations as well being useable in both eras. Expanding into vets/terminators/bikes/assault marines depending on your preferences is probably a good subsequent step as they are all used in some form in both eras. When you get to vehicles or more specialised infantry that you run into more restrictions but you may have a better idea by that point what sort of theme you want to run. Hope that helps somewhat and make sure you have a look at the pinned thread if you haven't already. Marshal Loss
As with all Legions, you can take anything and justify it using the lore. If it helps, the Alpha Legion when they appear in the Battle of Paramar (HH Extermination) deploy a massed teleportation Terminator assault before launching a full Mechanised column of Spartans, Land Raiders, Rhinos and Super Heavies to rush at the Mechanicum. Their rules are incredibly flexible, but the three most common builds i see are either Orbital Assault with Dynat, full Mechanised with lots of tanks and infiltrating armies featuring lots of foot troops. They're arguably the most adaptable Legion so take whatever you like, based on what your interpretation of the Alpha Legion is. I'd really recommend reading their lore in HH: Extermination to get a grasp of them. Submarine
thanks so much to you both. I think their flexibility is not something I appreciated but filling in those fluff gaps has really helped me. I will also check out the HH book you mention. betrayer41
I am very new to the gaming side of things. I recently played my first game and actually did quite well. I used dynat and my saboteur to wreck havoc in the back field. My opponent had no idea what was going on when my combi melta seekers and tank hunter vets killed all his dread and sicaran in one turn.
