Guard formations in Mont'ka confirmed

Heck, I'll take the option of a whole platoon blobing up. Medics for across the board FnP. Two infantry squads providing ablative wounds for multiple heavy weapon squads. Platoon standard helping a bunch of power axes win the day.

Good times.

I like how White Dwarf states that they won't spoil the story talking about their favorite moments, then immediately tell you that Farsight and Shadowsun end up working together when at least one would try to kill the other on sight.

Pask vs Longstrike I'm definitely looking forward to.

Burning Dawn and Operation Shadowtalon both have the War Zone Damocles Tau+Skull logo, I wonder if those small rulebooks will be collected superultimate WZD, as well. Also, weird that Farsight's formations would be fit into the Tau Empire rules subbooklet, but White Scars and Raven Guard would be different booklets.

Can any of you guys read the trait on the warlord card here?

Also, Pask vs Longstrike looks very fun.

That's basically an auto-win for Pask.  Here's why.  Whichever of the two lands the first hit may not kill the other outright, but he will keep that guy shaken/stunned/jinking until the victim loses.  So why is that auto-win for Pask?  He is required to have a wingman to soak up Longstrike's shooting, so it doesn't matter who shoots first!  Now, longstrike's ability to take a wingman helps, but the wingman is optional and you wouldn't necessarily take one in an all-comers list.

Looking at the warlord trait card.....the title appears to be "Master Orator", and the trait appears to be granting fearless, if I'm reading correctly. Now this is definitely not a trait we already have, so we know there's updated warlord traits. What is more....fearless is totally useless in the present command squad set up. Congrats, your 5 squishy guys won't run when there are only 3 left. Which inclines me to think that we really will be able to see combined squads extended to CCS and PCS. That, or the update is giving us the most useless warlord trait imaginable.

I find it fairly implausible simply given the power of everything else that has been put out lately. Also, the use of the term "Master Orator" suggests that it's about inspiring men. Finally, given how the Tau formation is all about combining units, and Guard are a sort of mirror image of the Tau, it wouldn't surprise me if GW made their decurions similar.

Platoon organization allowing everyone in a platoon to blob up would be awesome. PCS+SWS, 11 men with 7 specials, add ablative infantry to taste. PCS + infantry squads, power axes, priest and commisar, the return of power blobs. Infantry squads + HWSs, heavy weapon squads that don't immediately die.

Okay...so I hate to get people's hopes up, but I want to hear what they think. Not very much in the Mont'ka says anything about Guard, or Astra Militarum. It talks about Cadians, in much the same way that it talks about White Scars and Raven Guard instead of space marines. Probably nothing, but I want to throw it out there.

The Cadian 333rd sees absolutely not problem with that biggrin.png

It would be, especially the FnP we could. It's possible, but not for certain. But it's the best theory I've got.

I also completely okay with them making medics an elite choice that can be attached to other squads, like they are for a lot of the FW armies.

A medical unit with 6-12" fnp bubble, or multiple medics 1-3 that can be attached to units individually for fnp... Both would be great and make a lot more sense then the current arrangement...

I have experience with bubble units with Krieg Quartermasters and Mechanicum Lachrymaerta Adepts, and they get targeted in a hurry. IG don't have a transport option as durable as a Triaros, so I would much prefer the attached medics.

Of course, those would require a new kit, would they not? So we aren't getting that this time around. Maybe in February :P

They could also have a version of the formations where every unit is separate, but they share orders and possibly USRs?

Technically they have medic models in all the command squad kits... But yeah fair enough...

The Tau, White Scars and Raven Guard got a few really nice formations out of the last campaign book. This next one we've already seen the Tau formations and they are once again a doozy. They get a formation of riptides who get to re-roll their nova reactors and can choose to fire 4 times in one phase at different targets each time. Yikes.

So I have high hopes for the IG formations to be suitably ridiculous. Maybe that hammer blow lets the baneblade fire at every enemy unit on the board once. :P
