What made you LOVE your Legion?!

The first legion, I first read about the Dark angels with the space hulk expansion Deathwing and I have been hooked since. I may be in the minority but I liked  the first two Dark Angel heresy books. They have their faults for sure but it just cemented my love for the first.

Though to be fair, flight of the Eisenstien had me wanting to do a loyalist death guard.

I read Legion and instantly started making a heresy army way before 30k models were released. Admittedly only got like, 15 men but I STARTED DAMMIT!

Its now gotten silly with 5000 points of Alpha Legion with Knight support and the primarch himself......

I have a problem.

Yes indeed... You've still got to few points tongue.png

I'll be honest I would love to get to a full company of alpha legion with all the support, but space, wallet, sanity and time get in the way. But who needs that right?

I played Death Guard in 40K for a good decade or more before HH was launched. I knew all of their established lore at that point, but when I read the extent that FW took it I couldn't fight the urge. The idea of a Legion of Astartes who, to the wider Imperium, were symbol of courage in the face of horror. They embodied the Imperium's resiliency amongst all Legions, they battled some of the most horrific nemesis' in the known galaxy. They didn't do it for battle honours or bragging rights. They did it because it was asked of them. They became the Emperor's brutal weapon of efficiency, they waged war in some of the most horrific ways. Not because they enjoyed it, but because it was their duty and they were the only ones who could withstand it. They waded through chem soaked trenches, cleared the most Xeno infested planets, stalked the corridors of countless Space Hulks, all in the name of protecting mankind. Their betrayal and fall gets a bit murky, but I do understand the Death Lord's hatred of tyrants and despots, and I can see the Emperor being the embodiment of such an ideology or position.

Sons of Horus (my primary obsession)

- Always been a Black Legion fan since I was a kid, and Horus was far more mysterious back then (as was the heresy in general), which I found really fascinating. Horus himself is a huge part of why I love the XVI so much.

- Their fighting style is badass as hell.

- 'First among equals,' the Legion of the Warmaster himself. Best wargear & weaponry available!

- Aesthetic & colour scheme are amazing. I love the proto-Chaos look with spikes.

- Topknots are sexy. I love topknots.

Word Bearers (current project)

- Vast access to daemons/daemonic units, especially as the Sons of Horus do not have access at this point in 30k

- First Heretic/Betrayer by ADB did Lorgar justice

- Cool scheme that lets me play around with a 'faceless horde' kind of look, lots of religious texts etc

Dorn.

Sigismund.

Polux.

'Nuff said.

I came here to say this. Templars and all that jazz. Although Sangwie's lot is next in line, especially if big S will get a mini worth the defense of the Gates of Terra pic.

Yes. My thoughts aswell.

Because they give me a way to be whole again, at least in my own mind. Because as I think of passing, I'm reminded that they can take a beating but still go on. Because even though I am broken, they are not. They are the implacable advance, the marching death. They are strength of mind and purpose. They are what I once aspired to be but cannot attain now. They kill the nightmares that plague even the soldiers.

They are the XIVth; the Death Guard; my Death Guard.

What makes me love the World Eaters is the sense of unavoidable tragedy that accompanies them.

They could have been great - but fate decided for them.

From the very beginning.

Angron was ruined before he could grow into the man he was meant to be, and his Legion couldn't help but follow.

It's hard to explain really, and I am also quite tired atm.

But there never was a point where the World Eaters could have saved themselves.

Even if the Heresy never happened, they would still have been a broken legion.

An incomplete one.

They are victims of fate.

This is their tragedy.

And they do not care.

Plus, GLADIATORS IN SPHESS!

And I'm a quick to anger kind of guy tongue.png

XII Legiones Astartes World Eaters

- I like a good, tragic story. ADB's masterful writing in Betrayer sealed the deal for me.

- Striking Legion colors with room for customization.

- The "kill them all, no nonsense" attitude. The World Eater cares not what others think. The World Eater will always go further than the enemy. The World Eater will do what it takes to win and then some. If the Primarchs were a normal family, Angron would be the brother who always has a bad attitude, drinks too much, and beats down anyone who looked at him wrong.

- The purity of their method of warfare: (1) Apply sharp instrument to face and (2) repeat if necessary. Everything else - airpower, artillery, armor - just means to the end of bringing the Legionary and his chainaxe into swinging range of the enemy.

- ???

- BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULLS THRONE!

:D

I like footsloggers that blast you in the face point blank, will march through a meatgrinder to do it, don't care about dying along the way and just want to break your stuff when they get there. All to the music of the big guns. Move over Iron hands, Iron Warriors are the most metal legion around. As brutal as a World Eater and as stubborn as an Imperial Fist, these boys will get the job done, no matter the cost.

I like that the Imperial Fists are the only true 'soldier' legion, save perhaps the death guard at the battalion and company levels. They get more esoteric after that, as do the Fists. They are good because they train incessantly (tCF), have a higher than average optempo being fleet based focused on being in more places at once, and the general feel you get when you see that weathered yellow, flecked with blood. Like that guy has seen some :cuss and is gonna go home, polish his armor, sleep well and do it all again tomorrow.

I love Sons of Horus mostly for what they are not. They are not a legion that has an obvious schtick -- not a knock on any of the others known widely for certain things. All the legions were masters of all the modes of warfare of course, but I think the Sons of Horus really exemplify this. First amongst equals. They are not empire builders. They are not wall builders or wall destroyers. They are not shadow warriors or psychopaths. They are a tsunami that cannot be stopped, for better or worse.

And that Sea Green just pops on the table :)

Dark Angels for their secretive knight orders and sweet robes. They are the oldest sons, and upon their shoulders rests the duty of remaining loyal when all others leave or change - they are the inheritors. They pave the path for the other legions and set a high bar that the others reach for.

Plus we're the only loyalist legion who gets crap done before the Siege of Terra. We spanked the Night Lords (yes I am a huge NL fan too) and made Typhon run with his tail between his legs to go fetch Mortarion. I can't wait for us to slap him down too - and I hope it's the first legion Librarius that does it for extra salt in the wounds ;)

World Eaters/Night Lords? They know the true nature of war and do what must be done.

Heaven was not created without daemons.

White Scars.

  • Fiercely independent and free thinking, yet reclusive and introspective.
  • Distinct Legion character - That ideology of "there is no centre, only where we are".
  • Their slightly shamanistic/feral look.
  • Jetbikes.
  • Speed and bewildering ship craft.

I don't like Fu Manchus everywhere though.

Raven Guard.

  • The original grimdark.
  • Bird imagery that is not OTT (Mcwolfy-wolf)
  • Stealth and their reticent mien.
  • Mor Deythan and Corax's abilities.

I don't like Beakies everywhere though.

Why the Vlka Fenryka are the legion for me:

I have always been fascinated by Norse mythology

Their savage yet noble aspect.

FW haven't said too much about them yet. Apart from they will be quite a bit different to their 40K counterparts. So looking forward to a new incarnation of a legion I like.

Loyal

Adaptable.

I got into DG during 3/4th edition with the Chaos Dex. Loved em. Was on the boards back then always stalking the "pre heresy" threads, of which there were always loads for DG!

Then it came to the present and I changed my mind on legions a lot until I really reread the DG lore. Just everything about them is ded 'Ard and they use chem weapons!

Easy question.

Who broke the walls of Terra down?

Who made fools of the yellow clowns?

Weee dooo, weee do.

(No offence meant towards any IF players, but really..)

Oh boy, here we go again. The Templars are loose. Brace for impact :D

I've always had a bit of a thing for gladiators and Spartans, and I see a bit if that in the XII Legion. I imagine the War Hounds/early World Eaters going all Thermopylae on some mother trucka's. You know, more 'our small brotherhood is gonna whoop dat ass' and less 'blood for the blood god.'

Plus, I want to conquer the color white.
