simison
If I was the Emperor and just finished with the Great Crusade? The Lion: Since his talent is in strategy, appoint him as Strategos Maximus, and have him answer only to Horus. Start him off on exterminating the Hrud and continue eliminating the dangerous xenos who weren't annihilated during the Great Crusade. Fulgrim: Appoint him as Herald of the Imperium. His mission is to represent the Emperor on diplomatic missions and maintaining the peace in the halls of power. Perturabo: Free him from combat duty and allow his architectural mastery free expression and watch as he build the first set of Galactic Wonders. Khan: Put him on border patrol, encourage him to make laps around the entire galaxy. Russ: Extermination duty, focus on xenos but be prepared for anti-legion tactics. Dorn: fortress duty, secure the Imperium's frontiers. Curze: Stabilize him mentally. If able, have him assume his intended role as Chief Justice, maintain Imperial Law. If unable, put him out of his misery. Sanguinius: Aid him in curing the Red Thirst, let him know about Chaos and assign him anti-Chaos campaigns. Ferrus Manus: Make him liason between the Imperium and the Mechanicum, focus on advancing technology back to Dark Age level, minus the Men of Iron. Angron: Cure him of the Nails. If unable, euthanasia. If able, anti-rebellion duty. Guilliman: Put him in charge of half of the Administratum dealing with logistics and ruling Segmentum Ultima. Mortarion: Xenos extermination, keep him away from Imperial psykers. Magnus: On the Golden Throne, cooridnate with Sanguinius in fighting Chaos, in addition with providing psyker support to the Imperium as needed. Horus: Maintain Warmaster status. Lorgar: If he's still going around doing what he shouldn't, bring him to Terra and have a nice, long talk. If fruitful, will assign him to maintaining the Imperial Truth. If not, euthanize. Vulkan: Remove from combat duty, put his blacksmiting skills to work creating new marvels for the Imperium. Corax: Patrol Imperium's borders with the Khan. Put down rebellions as needed. AO: Intelligence services, keep the Imperium informed and alert of threats. Lord Asvaldir
Curze: Stabilize him mentally. If able, have him assume his intended role as Chief Justice, maintain Imperial Law. If unable, put him out of his misery. Not likely going to work out in the long run, Curze's idea of justice is very different from the emperor's or pretty much anyone else for that matter. Truth be told, I don't think the emperor ever had peacetime plans for the primarchs. They were being built for war with their entire purpose for being to be leading armies, even if many of the primarchs themselves may not have wanted to do that forever. Not to mention, the emperor has a pretty long history of neglecting the primarchs, and expecting them to just continue on the Great Crusade while he gets to work on his pet webway project. I'd even argue had the emperor payed a little more attention to his sons, the heresy may have never even happened in the first place, so it's hard for me to see that the emperor would have peacetime plans for his sons. Sith’ari
Yeah, I feel that the emperor only saw the primarchs as tools and never truly his sons. After the great crusade and the establishment of the imperial webway, I believe he would have placed them and their legions into stasis in the primarch palace, to be used as and when their particular skill set was required. After all, you definitely don't want someone like Angron sitting around, getting bored, in your new, orderly Galaxy! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316176-peacetime-primarchs/page/2/#findComment-4243924 Share on other sites

Lord Blackwood
I want you to think for a moment about Angron Free of the Nails ruling over Nuceria and implementing a system where people earn their place in society free of the rage and able to smile when not killing. The Arenas still stand but as a place where willing participants come to fight not to the death but for sport where any man regardless of his birth can becoming legend. Imagine the masses Calling him King Angron the Ascendant The man who delivered their world and made it one with the Imperium. Imagine Dorn and Russ and The Lion coming occasionally to visit their brothers great arenas to allow champions from their homeworlds to grace those hollowed sands. Imagine Pertarino showing up to help with the construction of new theaters and arenas. T n T but no none of that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316176-peacetime-primarchs/page/2/#findComment-4243949 Share on other sites

CaptainStabby
Well THAT shouldn't be too difficult really... Perhaps. I think the Emperor's plan for Magnus to ascend on the Golden Throne is proof that he had other purposes planned for, at least, a few of them to assume non-combat roles. Though I do agree that if the Emperor had made more of an effort to minister to his sons, the Heresy wouldn't have occurred. Captain Tezdal
A galaxy at peace? The Big E would simply disregard the Primarchs like the tools they are, to be kept comfortably in "retirement" on terra under constant watch, that is assuming they wernt assassinated outright. Knight of the Raven
I agree. The Emperor knows as much about gratitude as the ruinous powers do; nothing at all. mactire
I think that the Lion, the Khan, Russ, Corax and "maybe" Mortarion would continue to carry on in a military function, dealing with future threats like the Necron, Nids, Orks and such. Guilliman, Vulkan and Manus would become sector leaders/rulers like Ultramar is already. I agree that the Angel and Fulgrim would have some role as emissaries or ambassadors as they both appear to have the ability to awe and inspire people. Dorn and Perturabo would be made to reconcile their differences and would go on to secure the worlds of the empire with great defences and fantastic architecture. A&O would probably continue sneaking around in the dark spying on the other Primarchs and local governors, reporting to the Emperor or more likely Malcador. Horus would become the right hand of the Emperor and be groomed for eventual overall control, for when the Emperor would slide into the background as he has always done in history. Magnus would control the Webway. Both Angron and Curze were too badly damaged before the Emperor ever found them and I think some "accident" would have to befall them, likewise their legions are screwed up beyond repair. Maybe a crusade to wipe out a hive fleet might be the easiest way to solve the problem with both of them. Lorgar is the big one, it's hard to know what to do with him, when he's not being all super religious he has no real interest in doing anything else. So either he retires quietly to the palace to concentrate on something else, maybe dealing with petitioners as he is quite caring, or else off to the Nids with the other two nutcases. Same kind of applies to Mortarion, he either cheers up and gets on with it or else bye-bye to you aswell.
