Damo1701
Campaign forces: Total faction listing - Imperial: Astra Militarum - Primary forces, Initial contact Inquisition - minor role, minimal battlefield (Deathwatch presence?) Adeptus Astartes - Emerald Serpents Chapter Strength (Other Astartes chapters make guest appearances? Gamewise? Narrative/fluff?) Adeptus Mechanicus - Techpriests/techmarines (no Mechanicus battlefield role other than specified units) Xenos: Tyranids - Primary force - main victor, for the opening stages of the conflict (Other Xenos forces pop up at all to defend their own slice of space? Tau? Dark Eldar? Orks?) Lost and Damned: Not present. Main campaign for Volume one is drawing to a close, if I am right? Narrative needs polishing? Anything else? Idea for Volume 2 could be allowing some factional Xenos infighting, with Astartes presence, possibly engaged on missions, and having to retreat or retreating by choice to allow the xenos to kill each other? Could be other chapters involved, still allowing teh Emerald Serpents (Hope I've remembered correctly) to finish whatever it is they are doing on the homeworld. (Founding celebration perhaps?) Strong, diverse biomass for consumption and breeding. Lower prey index high. Higher prey index high. Breed warrior node high, warrior nodes medium, warriors many, speed kills many, infiltrators many, feeders medium, assimilators extreme. Expect resistance. Scout/feeder shows tough exoskeleton prey warring soft/agile prey. Begin assimilation. reptilelover1995
Interesting concept, though I think when it comes to the Hive Mind the communication is less direct and commanding, more like the organism itself is being driven ie "Deep in the cold void of interstellar space, a massive Hive ship began to stir. Its finely tuned senses had detected that which its kind endlessly searched for: new prey to consume. Reflexively, the ship began to head in the direction of the prey, driven by the insatiable hunger unknown to all but the bioengineering killing machines controlled by the Hive Mind." Could be other chapters involved, still allowing teh Emerald Serpents (Hope I've remembered correctly) to finish whatever it is they are doing on the homeworld. (Founding celebration perhaps?) Here's my responses to this: For volume 1, only factions involved are Astra Militarum, Tyranids, and then some elements of the Mechanicum/Inquisition. Basically, the goal of volume 1 is to introduce the reader to this new Hive Fleet, which enters space to target relatively poorly defended/'backwater' worlds, since it needs to gather biomass in order to become stronger, and it would be dumb as heck to try and attack a heavily fortified world with a relatively small Hive Fleet. That's part of how I've tried to explain that the wider Imperium does not find out about Laelaps until sometime during the events of Volume 2. Volume 2 involves the Emerald Serpents, Tyranids, and perhaps some local defense forces or whatever that are stationed on their homeworld of Rivicto. The volume is basically focusing on the Tyranids' consumption of Rivicto. Since part of their doctrine is all about adaptability (you can read the Index Astartes thing I wrote to see a bit more), getting beaten at their own game (in some sense) could be a particularly offensive blow, thus further motivating them to hunt and destroy Laelaps. One of the main reasons I'd like to avoid including too many different factions is because I have to buy whatever models I need for every single battle, and the more different factions I have to collect, the pricier it gets. You'll notice that in many of my lists I've reused the same unit(s) - that's because I'm trying to minimize the amount of new models I have to buy and paint :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316364-neverending-campaign-project/page/6/#findComment-4293354 Share on other sites

Damo1701
Sealing his wargear into a blessed storage box, Brother Captain Davos turned to Castellan Crowe and made the sign of the Aquilla. Crowe returned the salute, and walked with Davos to teh waiting Thunderhawk. "You don't have to do this. Those are young, inexperienced Inquisitors, who are now learning the folly behind their actions. The council cleared you and your strike force of all wrongdoing." Crowe was sincere, his gravelly voice loud enough to be heard over the rising whine of the Thunderhawk engines, but low enough for Davos to be the only one to hear. "I do. It's a stain on our honour, as my brothers pointed out, my shame is their shame, and their shame is mine. We will expunge this stain and return triumphant, with our honour restored. We are heading towards the Eastern Fringe. There are some cult cells out there that have been ignored due to other concerns. It's time to see what teh galaxy is doing while we are occupied." Davos' argument was clear, and to the point. Entering the thunderhawk, Davos saluted Crowe again, turned, and disappeared into the gunship as the ramp raised, and the aircraft lifted off ready to dock in orbit. With a scream of tortured souls, a hole appeared in real space, and a magnificent silver ship burt through the centre, multi-coloured lightning arcing and cascading along the turrets and hull. Small scars in the armour showed that the trip had not been quiet. However, the damage seemed to enhance the majesty of the vessel. Almost immediately, small organisms began to hit the hull, bursting like over ripe fruit. Undetected due to their size, the organisms began to generate wisps of gases as they began to eat their way through the meters thick armour. On the bridge, Davos searched both the tactical hololith, and forward viewing bay, as the blast shields retracted after the warp flight. His enhanced eyesight picking up strange silhouettes in the far distance. They almost seemed alive. certainly no ship he had ever encountered looked like that. What looked like a nebula or interstellar dust cloud began to coalesce as he looked through the bay. On the hololith, space was showing as clear. "Captain Gradpoan, raise void shields, and ready weapons. Something is out there, and it means us ill." The captain of the ship could almost touch the authority Davos injected into his order, while he was busy ordering teh Grey Knights to ready themselves for war. As the battle orders began to echo around the bridge, Davos turned and left, to armour himself ready. As he arrived at his quarters, the astropathic conductor approached, with an apprehensive expression. Continuing to assist the serf that was armouring him, Davos ordered the wizened old woman to report that which had importance to deserve a personal visit, leaving her post, and interrupting the Grey Knight during his armouring ritual... Damo1701
Davos and Justicar Gorolandro's Terminator squad stood in the teleport chamber as the Mechanicus acolytes chanted the litanies of accuracy and protection, power was building. All they were waiting for was Justicar Hormann's interceptors teleport homer signal, as they sideslipped from the thunder hawk's troop section, into the heart of the Xenos monstrosity. The Strike team were distracting things by attacking low priority targets. Brother Avanon was waiting a similar signal, so he could teleport his Dreadknight in, to give some support to the lighter armoured squads. The teleport chamber took on a green tinge as the homing signal was received. With a short chop of his halberd, Davos indicated it was time. The terminators were no stranger to teleportation deployment. However, this time, it felt far more 'wrong'. Gone were the gibberings of daemonic entities trying to claim their souls. Dim and indistinct were the souls of their brothers, to the psychic sight of each of them. Possibly the most disturbing aspect of this slip-second deployment, was the utter lack of colour, in a place where colour intensity, saturation, and variety were almost to the point of overwhelming. With a wet, sucking sound, Davos and the terminators materialised in the chamber with the interceptors. a fraction of a second later, Brother Avanon appeared. A section of organic wall began to change colour, and, as the bight blue of a nemesis blade appeared, began to be consumed by flame, the Strike squad had turned up, the silver of their armour tarnished with ichor and flesh deposits. Deploying the strike team quickly, Davos began the push in to the centre of the Tyrannic hive ship. Skirmishes with weaker beasts such as termagants and hormagaunts barely sowed them. As they approached a sphincter-like door, it pulsated, and opened to reveal a brood of carnifexes. Immediately the Grey Knights began struggling to feed warp energies to their Nemesis weapons, causing flickering blue light to emanate from their fists. The Interceptors pushed themselves behind the living battering rams, and began raking their hind quarters with bolter fire as the Terminators and brother Avanon charged. Guarding those in combat, the strike squad patrolled the perimeter of the room, fixing other sphincter-doors with braces of frag and krak grenades. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the interceptor squad appeared, one of them removing the head of a termagant from its body. A resounding meaty thud showed the last carnifex hitting the undulating floor, it's head in Avanon's powerfist. The terminators were braced in the fleshy opening, storm bolters chattering, incinerator pouring bursts of holy flame into a swarm of small creatures, with scythe-like heads. Stomping forwards, the terminators crushed dozens of the tiny beasts into paste, the power armoured grey knights rushed to join the line as Brother Avanon crunched his way forward, servos spitting and fluids leaking from cracks and splits. With a series of explosions behind them, the power armoured Grey Knights folded round, and began firing at the swarms of gaunts rushing towards them. It was nightmarish, ichor and chitin flying in all directions, the occasional lance of psychic energy spearing at the Grey Knights, only to dissipate or deflect before striking, the aura of their Aegis Plate in such proximity to each other meaning nothing from teh warp could break through. Psyk-out grenades flashing back towards the sources of the beams, causing retreat of death. Coming down to blades and fists, the Grey Knight Terminators, led by Davos break their way through a membrane, and enter the pulsating brain chamber of the ship. An interceptor, pushing himself away from a large, sword wielding Tyranid Warrior is suddenly speared through his primary heart as he rematerialises, by a previously unseen creature. The creature, larger than any greater daemon they had ever encountered, made Brother Avanon look like a neophyte. Hefting his Daemon Hammer, and blitzing a score of Psycannon shells towards the beast, impacts blasting chunks from the chest armour. Shunting himself to stand in front of the beast, Avanon shattered one of the oversized swords with his hammer, and caught another, and pulled it to block the swings of the other strange weapons. Allowing the struggles to take place behind them, the terminators began punching and smashing weapons into the massive, pink/grey/green organ before them, Davos stalked his way towards the gigantic beast engaging Avanon. Allowing himself to observe and read the flow of combat, Davos could see that Avanon wouldn't last much longer. Blood was flowing freely, and mixing with the fluids that allow the Dreadknight to operate. Cautiously, Davos slipped out of sight of the beast, and using all the power he could muster, threw a slice at the leg closest to him, severing tissues, nerves, and sinews. Moving quickly, every significant joint of target got the same treatment. Roars of victory turning to screams of pain. This armour finally typing the creature they were facing as a Hive Queen, Davos was relieved to be knocked to the ground by a spray of ichor as Avanon pulped the head of the creature, as the same time as the brain-like organ erupted from the attentions of the terminator squad. Activating the teleport homer built into their armour, the Grey Knights, disappeared, along with the two corpses of fallen Knights as the organisms around them dropped dead from psychic feedback. Dripping blood, ichor, and tissue in the Teleport Chamber, two brothers collapsed, as the apothecary raced forward to extract the Geneseed. Making his way to the bridge, Davos left the care of his team to the specialists best suited. He would clean his armour later. He had the execution of a ship to oversee. Damo1701
Codicier Hordawn walked through the fortress monastery, on his way to a meeting with the senior officers of the Emerald Serpents. Many things plagued his thoughts while he walked. The dreams he had been having, the results of the Emperor's Tarot drawings he had performed over the last few days, the fact the entire chapter was on the homeworld. Granted, the scouts were all paired off with marines from other companies as the opportunity presented itself. Each neophyte learning from a more experienced brother, learning his skills and specialties. The forges were ringing day and night, with the chapter's wargear never having looked better. Lexicanium Loftgar interrupted Hordawn's thoughts by approaching. There was a serious look on the young librarian's face, barely out of his scout armour, Loftgar had shown strength, potential, and discipline from the moment he arrived in the Dragpn's Tooth. Pair that with the psychic potential he had exhibited, and Loftgar would have wagered, had the Emerald Serpents taken part in that activity, his oldest relic weapon, a rare Plasma Pistol, touched by the Primarch Corax. "Hordawn?" The tentative, almost childlike voice seemed at odds with the size of the warrior who had spoken them. "The other Lexicaniums and are hare having trouble drawing from the warp. We were on exercise and attune our force weapons. Lexicanium Gorefeld suffered a stroke and died in my arms, sir, we told him to stop when we had, but he was determined to be better than us."Troubled, the Codicier started to run through the likely causes while he questioned the youthful librarian. "Was an apothecary summoned?" "Yes sire. Apothecary Beldivin arrived, with a gurney, and medical servitors after the vox call. It would have taken too long to send a runner. I knew he was dead though. Nothing we could do had any effect." "Did he say anything before he died? Or was death instantaneous?" "He.. s..so..sort of coraked something... I..I couldn't make it out though... I..It sounded l...like ..b..b..bugs." The youth was clearly struggling now, relaying the sudden death of a neophyte who had trained with him, competed with him. "Thank you Lexicanium. I want you to go and see the confessor. She will assist you though your problems. Answer any questions you may have, that she can answer. I'll meet with you again in a few hours." Compassion filled the aged Librarian, the confusion he kept from his face. Deaths while training were not uncommon, even after implantation. Though those had more to do with implant failure, or equipment accidents. This was the first time a neophyte librarian had died while accessing the Warp for a Force training exercise. With another burden added to his shoulders, Hordawn resumed his journey towards the chapter council meeting chamber. Servitors were travelling towards him, showing signs that they had been sent in with foodstuffs and beverages. One small perk. That thought made the Librarian grin ironically. Youths die, while the officers dine finely, and sup on the best they can get. Just like countless wars, across the eons man has warred. Facing the hulking Cataphractii Terminators of the first company, assigned to guard the council, Hordawn drew his humors in check, adjusted his robe of office, and tightened the belt holding his unique force hammer, his personal heraldry made real. Hordawn stepped into the dimly lit room, and took his place beside Epistolary Kindrage. The meeting could now begin. reptilelover1995
I like it, though I'd like to avoid having the entire chapter on Rivicto when it gets nommed (I want to have enough survivors for them to become fleet-based). Also, the primarch is Gulliman since they're Ultramarines descendants - I figured being on the Eastern Fringe and their general tactics seemed like a more Ultramarines-esque chapter. As for Cataphractii, would a chapter founded as late as the Emerald Serpents even have such ancient armour? I'm just curious, as from what I understand such suits are very rare in the 41st millennium and so would only be held by the older Space Marine chapters. Another thing I thought of regarding whenever the Grey Knights happen in on the 'nids - I've actually wanted to do a 'nids vs Daemons story partially because I was inspired by the fall of Shadowbrink [the only decent thing to come out of Cruddex 2.0]. The idea of what are essentially two competing top predators fighting over 'prey' just feels so primal and as an ecologist I find it very enthralling. In nature, it is not unheard of for two predators to be fighting so intensely over a prey item that the prey is able to escape while the two are occupied with killing each other. Perhaps that sort of scenario could be going on, where the Grey Knights notice that the Tyranids are ignoring them for the most part in favor of destroying the Daemons (not an alliance, mind you - they would certainly attack if they felt they had the advantage, but they are clever enough to know how to prioritize tactically). I also just finished the narrative portion telling the story of the battle at the outskirts of the main Jana facility. Casualties from campaigns are ready to be replaced, and those ship who brought suitable youths for training needed to deposit them. This narrative is set around the time of the first incursion. Don't worry, there will be a rebellion, and possibly some tau and Orks that need subduing, maybe even a ship or two of a rival hive fleet that need neutering. Enough threats that require sizeable forces to be dispatched, mixtures of companies, and elements of companies. Regarding relic marks of armour: Being an Ultramarine successor, there is a chance either single pieces, or a demi squad could be kitted out from either; A) Ultramarine stores, B) Marines Malevolent style plundering of space hulks, C) discovering enough of an STC that they can produce it themselves in limited quantties. To represent Tyranids vs GK vs Daemons, I suggest a 3 way battle, or series of mini battles. Use some of the stories from fluff as a basis of missions, like, the Daemons and nid's are scrapping away, with a warp gate in teh daemonic deployment zone. On turn 3 they GK's deepstrike in, and need to destroy teh gate, using teh Tyranids to keep the daemons busy. Here's a link to the pdf: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0msehwny44tqzml/The%20Laelaps%20Incursion%20vol%201.pdf?dl=0 I think it would definitely be a fun one to play, if I ever get enough money for all the minis and actually find someone to play with :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316364-neverending-campaign-project/page/6/#findComment-4302140 Share on other sites
reptilelover1995
Long time no update! Right now I'm in a bit of a bind, because BOTH copies of the Publisher file for this campaign book got corrupted, so I need to either copy and paste EVERYTHING into a new thing from scratch, or find someone with Publisher who'd be willing to do it for me. Luckily, I have a .pdf version of pretty much everything I've done so far, meaning I won't actually be losing much of anything. Still, I just don't really have the energy to motivate myself to go through the copy-pasting. Also, based on what I've seen so far of 8th edition, it looks like it may be great for Tyranids! Thus, aside from mission-specific tweaks, I may largely just use the 8th edition rules [though closer inspection will determine this for sure]. If so, the army lists may need a significant amount of remodeling to fit the new points and whatnot. I've finished the missions and the narrative for the Jana campaign, and have been working on the Niae campaign. It pits the local Astra Militarum against a Genestealer Cult, but I still need to decide subsequent missions so I can figure out how the story plays out. I also need to decide how to progress with the Exsteron narrative. The other thing I need help with is deciding upon a color scheme and background for the Astra Militarum in this campaign - I'm primarily a Tyranid player, which is why most of my lore and background has been on the Hive Fleet, but the guard need to have development as well (and I need to decide how to paint them, of course). Help is always appreciated! Here is a link to the latest pdf: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0msehwny44tqzml/The%20Laelaps%20Incursion%20vol%201.pdf?dl=0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316364-neverending-campaign-project/page/6/#findComment-4751416 Share on other sites
