Garro up on Forgeworld!

I'm feeling a little bit 'meh' about the model, tbh. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but it seems very middle of the road to me. His aesthetic looks chunky, whether by design or accident, and I think he deserves crisper details. Look at Sigismund - he feels crisp, as a sculpt. Garro just... doesn't.

Would you like me (by that I mean Charlo) to photoshop a Serpenta in place of his bolter?

Pros

-awesome armour detail.

-some really cool rules. Finally some interesting mechanics on non-primarch models

Cons

-the most generic space marine pose of all times.

-I thought helmet options were going to be a thing from Khârn/Sevatar onward?

Any ideas how this guy will work for those of us with loyal traitors (also know as the Alpha legion and not to be confused with the traitor loyalists the Dark angels)

I wonder if this will be clarified in Retaliation/Retribution, but from earlier books we already know there are loyal Iron Warriors biggrin.png

Because if you go into battle without a helm and you aren't a Primarch you are a big idiot Astartes tongue.png

Unless you are in the Rout and love your leather facemask or the feel of air on your (optionally hipster beardy) face ;)

As I said in the News&Rumours thread, I feel a bit let down by the plain-looking bolter. Even more if you consider it's a "paragon bolter", even better than a master-crafted one.

As for loyal "traitor" legion forces, well, roughly 30% of the Knight Errants who have appeared in the novels come from those legions, so I guess it can be possible to field Garro with them (probably as long as you don't have the Primarch or other named traitor character leading the army)

I love everything about him - the rules, the model, and his awesome sword and Bolter. I absolutely love that paragon Bolter because it looks so much like the old artwork

I also think that we can see some of the upcoming DA rules with Garro. The rending sword and the oath of moment rules. I believe it was stipulated that the Dark Angels would get oaths to take.

Even through my heart beats for traitors, I will get the model just to paint it or for conversion.. awesome! Great rules, but keep in mind you are paying at least 50 dead points on top for a blank centurion. It's a small thing, but HQs have rarely won battles in games of 2500 points.

@Carlo

No helm might be idiotic, but this is where a bit of real life comes in. Ever served in the military or police? The more veteran you become, the more you customize your wargear. You wear what you feel good and save in, rather than just taking all gear possible.

Especially closed helmetss are a pain in the *ss. Breathing through a gas mask sucks, you can't breath as easily in and out as without it, it's heavy and you start sweating, your neck gets tired and your sight is far worse than without a helmet. On top of this, once the plastics/glass is scretched a bit you see even worse or blurred, especially when looking into lights. In a job like beeing a space marine, where your death is for sure, I understand the whish for feeling at least comfortable :D

For everyone wondering how agent of the emperor works for their loyalist iron warriors, death guard, alpha legion etc... In 30k when you build your list the first thing you actually do is choose a Faction: loyalist or traitor. Once one of those is chosen you then select your whatever force you want, with some units being limited by Faction. So as long as you are a loyalist faction you can take Garro as a non-compulsory HQ.
