R2's Sons of Horus (WIP)

Hello,

This will be my modelling and painting log for my Sons of Horus army.

I admit I have started a few of these in different forums but never really updated any of them after a while.

This time I will do this until the end, whenever that might be.

I also of have 2nd Heresy era army that I will be building at the same time. I might add pics of it in this thread or start a new one for it, I dont know yet what is the best solution?

Currently I only have 1 painted miniature ( and its not finished yet) but I have enough models built (some are still unbuilt) for a 3000+ pts army.

List of models:

Abaddon - built & primed

Termie Librarian - partially painted

Chaplain - unbuilt

Maloghurst - unbuilt

3x Reaver / Veteran Squads - 1 built / 2 unbuilt (10 man in each squad)

Choooom Unit - unbuilt (10 man squad)

Cataprachtii Termie Squad - built (10 man squad)

Justaerin Termie Squad - built (5 man squad)

Twin Kheres Contemptor - PAINTED

BaC Contemptor - unbuilt

Spartan - built

Scorpius - built

Sicaran - built

Missile launcher squad - unbuilt (5 man squad)

Fellblade - partially built

Im still thinking of adding something to this army, I cant decide what will I go for.

What I have in mind is:

Dreadclaws

Rapier teams

Leviathan dread

Fire Raptor

So, with that out of the way, here we go!

Cheers,

R2

When I have a problem, I usually call for the Lord Commissar. Since the AoD doesn't have him, maybe find another Moderator and ask them.

I would help but I go about things the hard way. Well, I'll tell you how I do it until one shows up.

First, click on your name at the top-left of the site. It'll have your avatar and then your name (circle over it with your mouse and it'll show you a drop-down menu if you click it). One of the selections is "My Gallery". Click on it.

Now there's a red button on the right side of the screen that says "Upload". Click on it. If I recall correctly, it'll bring up a menu and you'll need to follow the instructions to Create an Album and then Upload some photos into it.

Ok, you've got your album and a picture loaded to the site. Excellent! Now click on the picture and on the right-hand side of the new screen you'll see some options. Click on the "View Sizes" button. The photo will be there along with some options in red (Thumbnail, Small, Medium, Large). Whenever you have the size you want, click on the photo. This should bring you to a screen with only the newly uploaded photo showing. Copy the URL- or http site or whatever it's called- and then click on the Back button on your browser.

Go to the thread you want to upload the photo. Click in the writing window and you'll see a button on the format bar (11th button on the bottom bar) that is of a picture. Click on it. A window will pop up and ask you to put in the URL for the image. Paste the copied link and then click on the "OK" button or whatever it may be- it'll be in red.

After all that, your picture should be staring you in the face.

I really hope that helps you out, Hammer. If not, just say something and someone will help you out. If I see it, I'll try to help you out in a different way.

Remember: the Heresy Train ain't got no brakes! Choom choom happy.png!

Thanks Mehman!

That is quite a hard way to add pics! ;o)

The next problem is that Im not using pc. I have Samsung Galaxy tab! :o)

But I will try anyway.

edit: it seems I cant create a gallery or upload pics (or im just too stupid to do it)

Nice progress! Can't wait to see your paint scheme. Do you know what colors you'll use for the base?

Paint scheme will be like in my dreadnought on opening post. Maybe ill go for a little bit lighter green, but I want to see how the darker green looks on infantry models first.

Justaerins and reavers will have black armour, red shoulder pads and brass/light gold trimming.

Yeah, about bases, I was going to do them as you can see on the dreadnought but all the flat grey areas filled with "dirty water" but im not so sure anymore.

Im open for suggestions? :)

That quad bolter on Abaddon is brilliant. Is that in the kit, or is it custom?

The green is very nice, and those bases are incredible!

Thanks, I like the green too. Its darker than most people have used. But I like it better. Its basically few lupercal green layers, coelia greenshade wash and layer of 3:1 mix of lupercal green : sons of horus green

Bases are from secret weapon miniatures and they are very nice indeed.

Some lovely models for you to paint! :-D

I like the Contemptor a lot.

Thanks.

Whole day, I've been trying to come up with an army list for what I have atm.

And its been very frustrating. I came up with a 3500 pts list with abaddon and pride of the legion RoW. (4000pts if Fellblade is included)

I decided to give my Jetbikes, Javelin and Scorpius to White Scars. (My 2nd army, small one with mechanicus allies)

I cant decide what to do, go with potl and make veteran tactical squads, or go with black reaving and use reavers as troops.

Or go with Maloghurst and use reavers AND veteran tacticals as troops.

Biggest problem with black reaving is that I dont have any fast attack options, because I dont like any of them! :) except Javelins and jetbikes but those will be in the Scars army. And Stormeagle, but its too expensive both money and points wise.

One option is to take dreadclaws as fast attack choices but I only need 2.

As a 3rd choice I was thinking primaris lightning, but its no longer listed as a fast attack choice on Forge worlds website under Horus Heresy. I wonder why? They still sell Voss pattern and I like how it looks.

I think that would allow me to drop the flakk missile squad and take something else as heavy support...

Maybe 2nd sicaran or a venator. Or leviathan dread!

I would like to solve this before I start building and painting rest of the units.

Does anyone have any great ideas? :)

Edit: I forgot to add that im not going to play any competitive games, so I dont care about the effectiviness of the units. I just like to use fluffy units and units I like visually. But still make my armies "legal" :)

Did your Terminators come gritty like that or did your primer dry on you before it hit the model?

Yeah, it was a cheap s***ty primer!

I will have to prime them again, this time with army painters black spray. Maybe I should try to strip that grey off first, if it is even possible.

  • 3 weeks later...

Right, I made little progress in the past few weeks, but started painting my first Reaver squad yesterday. I would show wip pics but photobucket wont co-operate. Have to try again tomorrow.

Also, I decided that I wont make just one list of my models. So I bought some bits and im making few HQ guys so I can try different combos and lists.

HQs will be:

Abaddon

Maloghurst

Kalus Ekaddon

Termie Preator/Falkus Kibre

Termie Librarian

Master of Signal

So, hopefully some pics tomorrow.

No luck with the photobucket app...

It just keeps uploading same picture over and over again. Then automatically backs them. And I have autobackup on off mode.

When I managed to stop that tried again and same thing happened. I cant even delete those pictures!

Anyone had same problems? Any advice how to fix that?

I'll try from pc tomorrow after I have taken new better pics.

  • 4 weeks later...

Right holidays are over so right back into action.

Few pics of the Choooomtemptor I built last night. Also did some painting and washing on the Reaver squad that are hiding behind the Dread!
