appiah4
I need an off white, preferrably a well covering warmer offwhite like Dheneb Stone. Current gw base white is.. well, that - white, and the nearest offwhite base paint is grey. Whats a man to do? Laborious
Vallejo Heavy warmgrey is what i replaced it with. Not an exact match, but very close. Father Mehman
GW has Rakarth Flesh which is Dheneb Stone's replacement. It's close enough to the original for my tastes. appiah4
Rakarth flesh is not even close to dheneb afaic. Ill check out vallejo heavy warmgrey. Does it cover well over dark colors? Laborious
Yeah, their heavy colour range was designed to mimic the old GW foundation range in terms of coverage and colour. A few of the colours wierdly don't match up at all well; but most of them, dheneb stone/warmgrey amongst them, are close enough that I don't think you'd notice the difference unless you tried painting one on top of the other. The coverage of the warmgrey is pretty comparable to what I can remember of the last time I used Dheneb. M@verik115
I use vallejo iraqui sand as a replacement. Slightly different, but works much better on fatigues and vehicles. Is that from the Model Color line? From my understanding they share the same formula and opacity as the Game Color Extra Opaque paints like Warmgrey? I only use the model colour line as it gives much flatter, darker and more realistic colours. That is how it looks after it has dried and been washed a bit. appiah4
Wonderful Chimera there, but that is indeed darker than what I'm looking for; I paint fatigues for my BA much darkerlighter than that, it would just not work for me: However, if I ever do start a Guard army I will definitely get the Model Color range. M@verik115
Yeah I see now that it is a bit darker, but just have a look at their range. They will definitely have the right shade for you. Vallejo is always my first choice in paint and ive yet to be disappointed with them. Vallejo is always my first choice in paint and ive yet to be disappointed with them. I stopped using GW paints altogether about a decade ago, but had been relying on their washes and foundation paints for lack of alternatives for a while. Lately, I moved from GW washes to Army Painter ink washes (pretty much the same things) because the new shades simply SUCK ASS. Now that I'm running out of my old foundation paints I want to ditch them altogether, so Vallejo Extra Opaque and Model Color paints sound like a fairly reasonable move for me. For my normal painting (layer painting if you will) I use Plaid FolkArt craft paints, which I find work fairly well for me, despite having rather coarse pigments and low opacity when thinned, but I got used to them and made them work. I have about 100 bottles of them, so I won't be running out of anything anytime soon, if ever.. but if I do, I'll probably switch to Vallejo GC. Cheers.
