Aeternus
Hey fellow forumers Been looking into getting an airbrush for christmas, and though my budget isn't tiny, it isn't huge either. Was wanting to know what sort of advice you'd give to someone looking for a starter airbrush. I already know I preferably want a gravity fed, dual action airbrush and a compressor with a moisture tap, and had found two things I was hoping the airbrushers among you could give their opinion on. The Harder & Steenbeck Ultra 2 in 1 as a beginner airbrush, allowing to start with basecoating, and if I get around to it detail work. Along with this a Piston Airbrush Compressor. Both seem to be at decent prices, (compared to others I've seen), so was wondering if this was a good way to go. I hear I'd also need an air tank on top of this. (along with many other accessories) Or this Badger Compressor with Air tank Thoughts? Advice? Help? Lucien Eilam
Harder & Steenbeck are a good manufacturer but, if you can stretch to one of the entry level Evolution models (Silverline Solo, say) rather than the Ultra, do it. The Ultra has a few cost-cutting features that will limit how far you can go with it. An extra twenty quid now will save you having to replace it entirely 6 months down the line. Aeternus
Have checked out the video, and a couple of others. After a bit more searching, found this bundle for a tanked compressor + H&S airbrush. Seems like it should be a good start https://www.everythingairbrush.com/airbrushing-kits-brand/value-kit-range/harder-steenbeck-kits/ab-as-186-airbrushing-kit-with-ultra-2-in-1-airbrush.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/316701-airbrushing-help-for-a-newcomer/#findComment-4244300 Share on other sites

Bartali
Have checked out the video, and a couple of others. After a bit more searching, found this bundle for a tanked compressor + H&S airbrush. Seems like it should be a good start https://www.everythingairbrush.com/airbrushing-kits-brand/value-kit-range/harder-steenbeck-kits/ab-as-186-airbrushing-kit-with-ultra-2-in-1-airbrush.html That seems quite pricey for a generic Chinese AS186 compressor bundle. Not that there's anything wrong with that compressor - I've had it for three years and am very happy with it. Get this from eBay, which will give you the same compressor and a couple of cheap airbrushes which are fine for basecoating etc http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/200600974912 I'd then get the Harder & Steenbeck Ultra, it's a bargain for what it costs. Had it for a year or so and use if for all my highlights/shading etc https://www.everythingairbrush.com/airbrushes/harder-steenbeck-airbrushes/airbrushes-harder-steenbeck-airbrushes-harder-steenbeck-airbrushes-ultra/harder-steenbeck-ultra.html I'd also recommend getting a couple of quick release adaptors so you can change airbrushes quickly, have a search on eBay, they aren't very much.
