Vulkan Lives Question

So I just finished reading Vulkan Lives last week, and it was my first real read with any kind of Salamander presence. Now I don't want to spoil anything if you have not read the book yet, so I will include my question below.

As I mentioned already, this was my first book with any real kind of Salamander presence, or really with any shattered legion presence for that matter (I sometimes don't read the books in order), so I was excited to see just what they are all about. As I am making my way through the read, I really start to like some of the characters and the struggle their legion had to go through.

I then finish the book and just find myself completely dumbfounded. Did they seriously just kill off ALL of these characters at the end of this book after they spent all this time making us feel so bad for them and just start to learn more about them? I felt like we just got to know them, and then bang they went out with hardly even a spark. Can anyone confirm if Numeon is actually dead?

It felt like battle for the Abyss all over again. If this is indeed true, then are there even any Salamander characters that are present in a few books?

I read Umremebered Empire already and did not see any mention of him. I searched on GWs website and did not find any novels that mentioned a continuation onto the Salamanders story.

Most of the other books with the Salamanders in take place before Vulkan Lives. They also happen to be Novella's these being Promethean Sun (Featuring Numeon and the rest of the Pyre Guard & before the Drop Site Massacre)  and Scorched Earth (the aftermath of the Massacre).

If you want more Salamanders then I'd suggest Deathfire which continues the Salamanders story from Unremembered Empire.

Awesome, thanks. I just thought the ending was so sudden for them and could not find out if it continued or not.

Lol I read Unremembered Empire first just because I am a huge Ultramarine fan, and was so confused by why Vulkan was the way he was. But after reading Vulkan Lives, it made so much sense.
